[snarfed]: ran into an odd situation with a like from a GoToSocial instance. When I click through the bridgy link it ends up at a 404 page on the instance saying "GoToSocial only serves Public statuses via the web." https://fedi.emmajuettner.com/users/emma/liked/01M02E03Q41RGT9Z8ZT75Q3QRY Their timeline appears to be public, though I don't see a list of likes advertised.
#
gRegor
My only concern was if they're using an allowlist and maybe bridgy wasn't supposed to syndicate the like. I'm not very familiar with GoToSocial but saw that mentioned under domain permissions https://fedi.emmajuettner.com/about#features
#
gRegor
syndicate/federate/whatever-ate :)

Interesting that a non-GoTo company product name exists that isn’t from GoTo (formerly part of Citrix).

it's an open source project not a company product right?

gRegor huh. you clicked on the link for a _like_, right? I'm guessing GtS just doesn't serve public-facing pages for those like we do in the indieweb. (probably not many fediverse servers do)
#
doesnm
there is per profile pages
#
[snarfed]
doesnm public-facing pages for _likes_

Loqi
[preview] [Emma] likes this.
#
gRegor
oh, hm maybe there's an issue with my parsing of that bridgy link
#
[snarfed]
nah looks right. GtS just doesn't serve individual likes
#
[snarfed]
either AP or web
#
gRegor
huh, interesting. How does bridgy pick it up?
#
[snarfed]
they send the Like activity to us
#
[snarfed]
they just don't serve it as a fetchable object
#
[snarfed]
fat ping
#
[snarfed]
so we're still happily converting individual likes to mf2 html and serving that to you. there's just no good user-visible page for them

maybe a far reach - but did someone by chance notice any issues with tumblrs custom domain integration recently? did they change something?

seems like they do a nice job announcing changes on either https://engineering.tumblr.com or https://staff.tumblr.com

Hey everyone been a while happy to be working on my website again. It occurred to me, somehow, that I have never configured a subdomain on my static sites, typically hosted on cloudflare or netlify right now. Whats the easiest resource to approach learning about subdomains for my personal site?
#
morganwebdev
I ask this out of interest and also googling was not as helpful about subdomains as i wished
#
morganwebdev
my website is https://morganwebdev.org and I want https://hire.morganwebdev.org to work with static content
#
[tantek]
What is GtS?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "GtS" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "GtS is ____", a sentence describing the term)

Hi morganwebdev. Welcome back! I've had good luck with subdomain registration on Netlify. Usually I reference the hosting providers docs.
#
[aciccarello]
My understanding is that it should be mostly like setting up your main domain but it is restricted in what record type you can use
#
morganwebdev
Nice! good to hear. I think I found the docs that help, I was stuck on some forum Q&A pages that seemed old or specific

what is subdomain
#
Loqi
A subdomain typically refers to a domain with one more "name(dot)" component than that which someone actually has registered which is often seen indieweb sites with a family name domain like joel(dot)franusic(dot)com, or on silos like matt(dot)wordpress(dot)com, or sometimes for hosting files elsewhere like images.yourdomain https://indieweb.org/subdomain
#
morganwebdev
Oh good! more info on the wiki
#
morganwebdev
I think in general Ill stick to `/slash` pages but I thought maybe, phonetically, hire dot morganwebdev could sound cool
#
gRegor
yeah I like meaningful subdomains like that
#
[aciccarello]
I have mainly used subdomains for entirely different sites (my micropub UI, my dog's site, etc). But hire page does sound good verbally.

I love a good subdomain. I moved a static cv. subdomain to a slash page. But I love them for completely separate projects (which cv was at the time). I even had to create a projects subdomain to track them! https://projects.trovster.com
