Yeah, so much for Auto Export for my health… opened this morning and I get x in cloud icons and the "refresh" button doesn't do anything. I can't actually trigger today's automations!

Oh that’s strange. Not having any issues this side?

"the cloud is a lie" <-- needs to be on a t-shirt
#
doesnm
the cloud is just someone's computer
#
[Trevor_Morris]
I sent a message to the developer and it is suddenly working again!
#
[Trevor_Morris]
It is nothing to do with "the cloud"… all the data is locked to the phone, which this app tries to free-up. Clicking the buttons in-app sends the data to my server (and backup to Google Drive), so it shouldn't rely upon any "cloud" server.
#
doesnm
i hope google drive one are encrypted, encrypted yeah? https://soju.doesnmlab.xyz/uploads/doesnm/4ed6a6de-4-panels-meme.jpg
#
[Trevor_Morris]
tdrayson, do you know what the green (I) icon means? Clicking it doesn't seem to do anything. Some times it is red. See how all the clouds are now gray, they were like that when it doesn't work, but then worked, but no gray again.

#
tdrayson
Have you checked the logs inside them?
#
tdrayson
There’s like an activity log that tells you when it last ran etc
#
tdrayson
I have mine run every 12 hours, although they’re showing green not grey. The dev seems responsive to questions though
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Nowt about errors in the logs. What confused me when the automation ran this morning, the sleep data wasn't expanded. Then I did a manual export and re-imported into my system and it *did* appear. The logs said something about "updating cache" so it might've been that.

tdrayson do you have a colophon? It’d be good to read about how your site is built. Sources for data, what icons you use etc.

#
tdrayson
[Trevor_Morris] what date range are you using ?
#
tdrayson
I’ll get a colophon written up today
#
[Trevor_Morris]
“Yesterday”
#
tdrayson
So I think that it counts yesterday as being the previous night sleep rather than the sleep that you just finished this morning
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Maybe. Sounds plausible. But the summary data for the sleep comes through.
#
tdrayson
definitely something weird going on there
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Then I manually run the automation with dates and it expands the sleep data.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
As long as it works it out the next day, it'll be fine I guess.
#
tdrayson
Still annoying, maybe worth mentioning to the dev as it might be a bug
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Messed around with the MCP stuff again last night. Firefox can see the endpoint, Safari can't. LLMs can’t connect to the IP. I think I need the MCP-remote node bridge. Not sure if I can be that bothered. Only if it gives me the ability to fetch ALL the data.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
I put a comment on their Discord the other day, but it feels abandoned, not many comments in months.
#
tdrayson
Not sure how much you're into MCP's in general, but I setup https://github.com/laravel/mcp for my personal site with read
#
tdrayson
The discord link I tried to join didn't work lol, they have reddit but I found the dev to be the most responsive via iMessage

I have Boost installed, which comes with that I think. It's all a bit over my head with so many components to these magic black boxes, skills, MCP, rules, prompts, models etc 🙃

[Trevor_Morris]
You should join the Laravel UK slack btw
#
[Trevor_Morris]
I'd love to read a write up on how you get the battery information. I saw another website with that on and wanted to integrate something similar. I've got a basic branch open, but I don't know how to automate the data fetching/sending.
#
tdrayson
I'll probably mention it briefly in the Colophon, but I plan to write a more in-depth article on how I do it.

I'm using a static HTML generator to make [my website](https://jeffkingdom.com/). I would like to add a views counter to it but I don't want one that comes along with cookie tracking shenanigans. I would kind of like to self host a little service that could do the counting. Does anybody know of any software projects that do this? If not, are there any non-creepy services that could help me with this?
#
theboeh
The AI recommends that I should just write it myself. Looking at what I've been able to find so far, it might be right. 😖
#
IWDiscord
<tdrayson>
#
tdrayson
They have cookieless tracking, then you could fetch the view counter with their api via JS on page load or at build whichever you prefer
#
tdrayson
You could look at self hosting your own analytics like Matomo https://matomo.org/
#
IWDiscord
<tdrayson>
#
tdrayson
there's also plausible - https://github.com/plausible/community-edition/
#
theboeh
Thanks. I'll take a look at these. At first glance they seem a little heavy for what I want to do.
#
tdrayson
well it's essentially a database with a script that records a new entry everytime the url loads. You could setup a tiny SQL db and a small PHP script that does it.

IWDiscord: using a CSS :hover has worked for me https://herman.bearblog.dev/how-bear-does-analytics-with-css/
#
theboeh
Yes, that is a problem, but it's also a little bit of why I want to put up a counter. I'm curious what the numbers are. I guess I could just check my logs, but a counter sounded more fun.
#
tdrayson
could you not just parse your logs and statically show on your website?
#
theboeh
yeah... it's an option, that would mean regenerating my site on a regular basis, I don't update it enough for it to naturally refresh that number at a reasonable rate.
#
rnkn
IWDiscord: you could have a specific URL that just dynamically rendered "12608" or whatever, and keep all other URLs static content

#

or easier, use goaccess and have it spit out static HTML from your logs every hour
#
theboeh
That's an interesting one. I'll need to take a look at that.

How do you sync from Strava? I have an API key and I need to OAuth it every time. I don't want to do mine automatically, though, as I might change the title, add description and photos in Strava before I sync the data my side.
#
tdrayson
I use OAuth and then use the refresh token to get a short-lived access token that refreshes every time it needs to.
#
tdrayson
For me, it will automatically sync the original data, but if I update it half an hour later, when it resyncs, it pulls in the updated title.
#
IWDiscord

#
IWDiscord
<tdrayson>
#
tdrayson
In terms of syncing automatically, I refresh and sync the last 3 or 4 days of activites to check to see if the activity title, description or new photos has changed, and then it resyncs/updates my entries.
#
tdrayson
If you do everything in Strava (like setting the title, description, etc.) and you just have it sync every couple of hours, then it will always be correct
#
IWDiscord
<tdrayson>
#
tdrayson
If you're setting the title and description manually on your website, then that obviously is a different scenario
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Makes sense. I'm setting it in Strava, then syncing it to mine. So your way would work.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
You mentioned MyFitnessPal for tracking food, but you've mentioned Rovi here? I might try to do this starting tomorrow, so would like to know which is best to use!
#
tdrayson
Yeah it’s confusing. Basically, I used an app called Lose It! originally and so had all my data in the app unfortunately they did not have a public API so I had to do some crazy gymnastics. Where they did offer sending a CSV of your food entries via Email which I then wrote a script to pause and upload to my website once a day.
#
IWDiscord
<tdrayson>
#
tdrayson
As far as I’m aware, I didn’t technically look into it. I couldn’t find a way to import my data from Lose It! to my Fitness Pal, which would’ve been my preferred app had I known? I was going to use it on my website since they have an API.
#
IWDiscord

#
tdrayson
ROVI is an app that my friend is building and he was kind enough to import all of my historic data and also create a custom API for me to fetch my calories. Rob does more than just calorie tracking it does activity logging etc too although I don’t use it but it does sync from Apple health so all my strive activities pull into it automatically anyway
#
tdrayson
ROVI* not Rob
#
tdrayson
If I was starting fresh, then my fitness pal is probably what I would use if my friend wasn't building this app. And if you only want calorie tracking, then MFP would be what I would use.
#
[Trevor_Morris]
Perfect. Cheers!
#
tdrayson
The one thing I can recommend is that, if you are going to start tracking, you build the habit of logging the food as you eat it. As it becomes a habit and you don't think about it, you just log it throughout the day.
#
tdrayson
Also, when it comes to my food logs, I store them as single entries in the database. Each row is a separate food item keyed by the date I ate it, and then I group by day on the front end

#
[Trevor_Morris]
I would need to look into the MFP API to see how they send data, but that makes sense to me. Log separately, then group. I'm not sure I'd fill up my timeline with each individual entry, though, as it should be > 3 each day. I'd probably group it at the end of the day, like activity/sleep.
ben joined the channel
#
tdrayson
No I don’t show each individual entry. Just a single day
#
tdrayson
I would assume MFP don’t send data, just polling them

#
tdrayson
I haven’t checked, but I was thinking of adding / syncing Strava comments if the api exposes them.
#
IWDiscord
<tdrayson>
#
tdrayson
And merging them in with webmentions as the same “type” under an entry
#
[Trevor_Morris]
I've got an update which syncs the activity HR zones.
#
tdrayson
Oooo, okay defo gonna add them. Will need to wait for the comments/webmentions to be merged first

Ah. I didn't realise MFP was a paid subscription. 👎

Looks like they have 3 tiers, free, premium and premium+
#
tdrayson
But not add free on free plan sucks
