python 3.10 reaches end of life in two weeks. would it be unreasonable to deprecate support for python 3.8 and 3.9 in mf2py or should I make the effort to tweak its testing workflow to maintain support?

mf2py has been updated. i was able to keep support for 3.8/3.9 while adding support for 3.13/3.14. let me know if i broke anything.

i finally got webmention on my jekyll web!! no clue if it actually works tho but it's there
#
fafau06
i was gonna use webmention for comments but doesn't that mean that only others who also got webmention on their site can comment on my post?
#
fafau06
like, it won't be a public comment section, isn't it?

There are a couple of answers to that. One is to use http://brid.gy - if you post links to your posts on mastodon/bluesky/reddit it will pick up replies there and send them to you as webmentions.

If you want to enable comments from peopel without their own site, you can link to (or make a form from) https://commentpara.de/

still a couple rough edges but it should mostly work. some pretty big changes from indieauth.com UX wise though

FYI, not sure if a Zen/Firefox thing, but the favicon for me is a green square. Feels like it should be that nice blue circle/ring icon. (Super minor detail, obviously )
#
aaronpk
oops, there's no favicon, wonder why it's a green square for you
#
thamara_k
Should I update my site with the IndieKey endpoint if I need to stay signed into the wiki?
#
thamara_k
Apologies if this is a stupid question. I don't exactly understand what this is. Is IndieAuth being replaced?
#
aaronpk
this page has some more info https://indiekey.id/migrate
#
[Murray]
Might be a Zen thing
#
[Murray]
yeah Firefox and Vivaldi are both empty. My guess is there's a default fallback favicon in Zen, never noticed it before 🀷
#
aaronpk
if you link to indieauth.com as rel=authorization_endpoint then yes you should switch to indiekey. I am eventually going to shut down indieauth.com like I have been promising for the last 7 years
#
rubenwardy
are you based in Indonesia?
#
rubenwardy
probably not a good idea to use that tld
#
rubenwardy
can websites 'pin' a passkey?
#
rubenwardy
like provide a public cert
#
[tantek]
lol was just going to ask about migration to Indonesia
#
thamara_k
aaronpk returning a 429 on the /migrate page, guess I should check back later?
#
thamara_k
but yes I had it linked as rel=authorization_endpoint so that answers my question
#
thamara_k
thank you
#
aaronpk
Looks like your cdn is blocking requests, which will likely affect indieweb apps you're trying to log in to as well
#
thamara_k
I see. I enabled some bot protections on Vercel, could that be the reason?
#
thamara_k
I am still logged in to the wiki and webmention.io without any issues
#
thamara_k
disabling that worked with the /migrate page, thanks

that all seems to be working now. one last question, if I block non-browser requests again on my CDN will it affect indiekey?

Minor, but the anchor links in the docs make the heading appear under the fixed top banner, so "Moving from indieauth.com" isn't visible

gRegor, last evening I got SSH connected to my server and I got direct access to my logs, as well as I was running tail -f to monitor php-mf2 attempts and the python equivalent. I could see the PHP trigger 403 errors, but the error logs aren’t populating, sadly.
#
gRegor
ah, no request headers in the log?
#
gRegor
The User-Agent header is what I was suspecting
#
[artlung]
aaronpk++ managed to create an account, add the link html header, log in, and I can see β€œhttp://artlung.com signed in through http://indieauth.com 15 time(s) since 2020-01-16 .”

is there indieweb-friendly way to accept comments from an unauthenticated site visitor? I.e, some person stumbles upon a blog post and wants to comment "Hey cool" without having to create account.

[snarfed]: Do you know if some Mastodon instances use `#` in the URLs for their likes? I'd not seen that before, seemed to trip up my webmention receiving when it got encoded. The source URL was https://ap.brid.gy/convert/web/https://social.lol/users/todd%23likes/2519999

Random thing: I bought an Honor MagicPad 4 tablet, and it promised it could run Linux properly via Linux Lab... Well, it isn't as mature as it should be - a few bugs. But the actual performance of the thing and the quality of the keyboard for the way I like to use tablets and laptops (I also have tiny hands) made me explore other options. Well... Long story short, I now have a secure virtual desktop when I need it, via my standard server. And

I can do all my usual linuxy things on there. I also discovered Acode (VS Code/Codium for android) in the process, which is really good and has its own terminal, and can do all the usual things. Recommended! Termius is my go to for remotely controlling my server, as usual, but this makes it just so much easier to travel without a laptop when I don't want the hassle of it.

I didn't try out the AI agent part so can't say anything about that. But yeah, look. https://acode.app/
