USB sticks, spare power strips, etc?
#
GWG
[mattl]1: USB sticks?
#
GWG
Power strips I think [Joe_Crawford] brought last year. But I should ask him
#
GWG
In my case, remote participation computers and the Indieweb flag
#
[Joe_Crawford]
yes, i will have
#
GWG
Okay.

I don't think so, looking forward to seeing you and everyone! Be sure you have masks, per the event health policies we've set up!
#
GWG
[Joe_Crawford]: I am never without them if you recall. And this is indoors, so I won't be removing them in the venue.
#
GWG
I have 4 dual COVID + Flu self-tests in my bag
#
GWG
Hand sanitizer
#
GWG
No matter how much you prepare though....
#
GWG
I even have my IWC badge
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Should be great!
#
GWG
After last year, I'm not taking any chances
#
[mattl]1
I find USB sticks are useful if things aren’t working or are slow. I demoed all my stuff at the Web 1.0 conference from my PowerBook G3 but was able to use the usb stick to get files.
#
GWG
I think we're the sort of event that needs internet though

#
[mattl]1
Sure and when it’s not working you’ll be glad you had a USB stick or two

[Joe_Crawford]
Keeping that in mind for Indieweb Camp: Faraday Cage Edition.

What is offline?
#
Loqi
offline is anytime you're not online and connected to the internet; on the IndieWeb, a personal site can have offline support by implementing an offline first approach https://indieweb.org/offline
#
[mattl]1
Offline is my fear and my biggest dream at the same time

with as much storage and compute we have in our pocket computers, offline should be a seamless thing that "just works". there's no hardware reason for all the network dependency in all the software, sites, and services we have

I'm still thinking about trying a winter IWC online like we did in '19 and '20
#
GWG
Anyone interested in planning such a thing?
#
capjamesg[d]
GWG Any links?
#
capjamesg[d]
I'd love to read more about the last events.
#
capjamesg[d]
Separately, a holiday season Create Day could be cool.
#
GWG
19 was interesting
#
GWG
capjamesg[d]: I'm in for that too
#
GWG
IWC Online 2019 was a split timezone schedule, which was interesting
#
GWG
And I had some ideas about Create Week over day
#
capjamesg[d]
The timezones on the 2020 schedule look perfect for Europe.
#
GWG
I was in Europe during that as I recall
#
capjamesg[d]
I can mention this at the next HWC Europe online and see how many people would be interested.
#
capjamesg[d]
I'd definitely be interested!
#
capjamesg[d]
Want to start a page on /Planning?
#
GWG
capjamesg[d]: Happy to
#
capjamesg[d]
I can help with any A/V Zoom things.
#
GWG
I'd like to discuss different ways of doing online events
#
GWG
Different as in not just the different ways we've tried, but different ways we might try
#
GWG
IWC West was an attempt early in the pandemic where we tried to make it exactly like an in person event
#
GWG
Including with night before dinner social
#
capjamesg[d]
[Joe_Crawford] One idea I had was an accessibility-focused FReSH. If that was interesting to you, I'd love a session on the topic. Or if not, I wonder if there would be interest from someone else!
#
capjamesg[d]
I am doing more thinking about what a regular writer's meetup would look like. I'm going to ask for some feedback from a few people before planning another one.
#
capjamesg[d]
I feel like we're partially there, but that something is missing.
#
GWG
I also loved pop-up sessions and I am sad they fizzled out
#
GWG
capjamesg[d]: What would you think of Indiewebweek? As in, an online event spread out over multiple days instead of all together?
#
capjamesg[d]
I think that may be a bit hard to schedule for.
#
GWG
I'm just brainstorming
#
capjamesg[d]
Well, maybe not. I'm not sure!
#
GWG
For example, a one day IWC then a midweek demos?
#
capjamesg[d]
I like that!
#
capjamesg[d]
I thought you meant one event a day 😄
#
GWG
No... I meant the same amount of event, just spread out a bit
#
capjamesg[d]
I like the idea of having more time to work away on things.
#
capjamesg[d]
I am usually away from my computer for a lot of Sundays.
#
GWG
There's also a month of Indiewebcamp....three sessions...1 per week.
#
GWG
Again...we keep throwing things against the wall till they stick

_One idea I had was an accessibility-focused FReSH. If that was interesting to you, I'd love a session on the topic. Or if not, I wonder if there would be interest from someone else! -_ capjamesg[d] I 100% agree. We tried to do one in Summer with an expert but that person ended up too busy to make it work. I don't have quite enough confidence in my a11y skills (though I do know the basics) but it's something I want to do. In the
#
[Joe_Crawford]
meantime I think be on the lookout for good a11y demos/tutorials/tools to discuss!
#
capjamesg[d]
Ooh, that sounds like a good plan!
#
capjamesg[d]
One big thing on my mind is how accessible is the CSS checkbox menu...
#
capjamesg[d]
Or, rather, how to make it accessible.
