perryflynn hello. 👋 I am thinking about visiting the camp in berlin in november. from the wiki: "bring KN95/FFP2, N95, or equivalently rated mask/respirator that you’re comfortable wearing in meeting rooms" vs. "recommend masking when indoors, and only removing a mask to take a sip from a drink"

perryflynn I would rather not wear a mask all-day. testing and isolation five days before is not that big of an issue.

[tantek] that's correct. masking is a recommendation, not requirement for IWC Berlin
#
[tantek] bringing a mask gives you the *option* in case of new information / changing conditions
#
[tantek] hence it's best to always have a mask available (we may have some extras to give out too)

perryflynn great, thanks for clarifying, [tantek] . I have always a mask with me for crowdy areas and will do a test every morning. just wanted to make sure that the mask is not expected from me while sitting on my laptop or chatting with people. :-)

[tantek] prior Berlin IndieWebCamps have had mixed masking usage, and in general people respect each others preferred usage of masking (or not). as you say, some mask more when in more crowded areas, or when not talking or eating.

[tantek] I think this has worked fairly well because the recommendations help to encourage mask wearing but not shame lack thereof.

[tantek] Berlin has fairly high vaccination rates as well (last time I checked) which helps further mitigate. We also have a strong air filter in the main room, and windows which open in the casual chatting area outside the main room.
