chrisaldrich tantek I see you purposely trolling me, so now I suppose I'll have to come /2025/SD#Session_ideas 🗃️
#
[Al_Abut] Thanks James! You threw down the gauntlet to make something custom, so I had some fun with it.
#
[Al_Abut] [artlung] and [tantek] - you’re both right! The dimensions of the masthead graphics for events is coincidentally the same as a famous movie format called Technirama, a very widescreen ratio used for big operatic films like 2001 and Lawrence of Arabia. And many movies would emulate this wide look by squeezing the sides of their negatives to make them tall.
#
[Al_Abut] So a movie can be both wide and tall at the same time.
#
[Al_Abut] Turns out there’s even wider formats like Ultra Panavision 70, used in movies like Ben Hur or The Hateful Eight.
#
[Al_Abut] Let’s just say I went down a rabbit hole ;)

chrisaldrich tantek, I've got a few relevant examples there including this apropos one from earlier in the week: https://boffosocko.com/2025/11/11/principles-of-indexing-and-filing-by-cadwallader/. Coincidentally(?) Dewey Decimal Day falls on the Wednesday before /2025/SD

#
chrisaldrich social, just two? I wish I had time to do some serious help planning and setting up SD, but this year hasn't been a good one. 😔
#
chrisaldrich Sonia has an evening event on Sunday, so I'll have to see how much of Sunday I can make, but I'll definitely have to come for the day on Saturday.
#
chrisaldrich My foggy brain isn't coming up with it at the moment, but someone in person this past week (?) tipped me off to IWC SD and sent your regards GWG and artlung. Thanks for that. It made my week.
#
chrisaldrich GWG, I may have to do some serious digging through boxes post-fire to find my official IWC identification you'd sent me.
#
chrisaldrich a good VP will appoint themself, don't you think? But be careful of the rush....
#
[social] [chrisaldrich] that was me and I pointed to GWG and Angello who had been looking for you.

[tantek] [chrisaldrich] ++ beautiful! I see a minimal CSS challenge in my future. Also love this one: https://boffosocko.com/2022/07/08/card-catalog-30-notecards-from-the-library-of-congress/

#
[social] There used to be 6 core colors for the cards (white and pastel versions of: yellow, blue, green, pink, and orange).
#
[social] For a stretch I was regularly speaking at library / librarian conferences re: folksonomy and the exhibit halls were fascinating with library tech and supplies (as kid I loved my dad’s office supply catalogs he would bring home and would spend hours going through them). Lunch table discussions about card catalogs their history and vast differences in how different libraries approached them.

[chrisaldrich] Blue, buff, green, ivory, salmon, and white. And because I happen to have it in an open browser tab 🤷 https://www.shopbrodart.com/Library-Supplies/Circulation-Supplies/Book-Cards-and-Slips/_/Brodart-Blank-Colored-Book-Cards1/?q=card%2bcatalog%2bcards
#
[chrisaldrich] Thanks [social], I knew it was from someone I associated with three other things before IndieWeb... but I also thought it was in person—I spend too much time in Zoom obviously.
#
[chrisaldrich] tantek, my daughter has considered making minibook simulacra to put into mini-shelves inside one of the drawers of our card catalog: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyHMMdRrw6p/ lots of tutorials about it now as making them has become a "thing", especially since many books are now digital/audio.
#
[social] Wait, Zoom isn’t in person? Odd…
#
[chrisaldrich] She was inspired I think by having seen this woman's miniature museum inside the drawers of her card catalog: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1283073189/museum-of-tiny-things-founding-member
#
[tantek] [Al_Abut] I took the liberty of adding a potential session on photos for IWC SD, and listed you as a maybe co-facilitator. Feel free to edit to confirm 🙂 https://indieweb.org/2025/SD#Session_ideas
