feel very indieweb-dev-aligned event in Amsterdam in April for Europeans: https://the-web-you-want.org/

does it make sense for an event to have a guest book?

aaronpk idea for Meetable: it would be cool for an event creator to be able to see a list of people who have attended a meetup in the past so the host can reach out to see if they would be interested in participating in a newly-scheduled event.

My specific use case is that I sometimes message people directly about the writing meetups since they happen infrequently (~every two months).
#
[capjamesg]
Maybe the solution right now is to encourage people to subscribe to the ICS file, but I thought I’d share the idea anyway.

By "attended" I assume you mean RSVP, because it doesn't track attendance

I dont know if we can really do better than just manually looking thru the RSVPs
#
[capjamesg]
Yes sorry I meant RSVPs.
#
[capjamesg]
Hm when I think about it maybe that wouldn’t be particularly useful as many participants don’t RSVP (and that’s okay!).
#
[capjamesg]
Yeah it might be best for me to encourage people to subscribe to the ICS / newsletter instead.

Personal outreach is definitely helpful tho
#
[capjamesg]
Yeah. It has helped me keep a few people engaged who aren’t actively checking the events page, etc.
#
[tantek]
I feel an itch similar to this, in that it's hard to track Tito ticketed events signups or attendees
#
[tantek]
This literally why I created the Guestbook on the IWC DUS page: https://indieweb.org/2026/D%C3%BCsseldorf#Guestbook — because people (considering) going to an event very often want to see "who else is going" — and when this info is missing from a Meetable event, it makes the Meetable page less useful for sharing around
#
[tantek]
!tell [jeremycherfas] are you going to IWC DUS? I kept you as "interested" in the Guestbook because I wasn't sure. Feel free to update if we'll see you there! (or maybe add yourself to remote participation) https://indieweb.org/2026/D%C3%BCsseldorf#Guestbook
#

Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
[tantek]
There are other uses for keeping better track of which events someone has been to. Heylo does this with absolute counts on people's profiles
#
[tantek]
Imagine congratulating people on participating in their 5th, 10th, 15th IndieWebCamp etc.
#
[tantek]
right now we don't have this info, and it would take a bunch of work to create it for the past from photos etc.
#
[tantek]
would be nice to have this info somewhere folks could opt into
#
[tantek]
maybe even get a little badge next to their name
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, I find it hard to keep track of and reach out to people who have been to IWCs but who are not active in chat (but would likely come to another IWC in their city)
#
[capjamesg]
Yeah. It is especially hard when different hosts are running a meetup; not everyone has the full picture of who has attended and can send reminders.
