Anyone else going to Nuremberg Digital Festival events? I’m considering creating an event on events.indieweb for indieweb community folks to coordinate and share which sessions they're interested in
#
[tantek]
Alright I'm going to create an event and may live-chat some of the challenges I run into
#
[tantek]
challenge one, annoyed that the TEXT in the top left corner of https://nuernberg.digital/en/ is not selectable to easily copy/paste. This is a bad use of an image
#
[tantek]
so instead I have to copy/paste it from the Slack preview ^ which comes from invisible metadata inside the page. that's poor markup design.
#
[tantek]
challenge 2: none of the drop down "v" menus at the top right of https://nuernberg.digital/en/ work without JS. failure to adhere progressive enhancement best practices, nevermind accessibility
#
[tantek]
challenge 3: location/where is *not mentioned* in any of the options in the top level menus in the top right of the page. This is an information architecture failure (poor design) because location is literally one of the most important aspects of an event. If there are multiple then call it "Locations" plural.
#
[tantek]
(the word "Location" is only mentioned once on the page and it's in the instance of "*Location:* Online via Microsoft Teams", also not helpful)
#
[tantek]
challenge 4: no sign of a code of conduct on the home page or the sign-up page. in 2026 the lack of a code of conduct is at least a yellow flag for a conference.
#
[tantek]
challenge 5: there is no good/relevant/specific summary of what the festival is, on the home page. this is perhaps a copy writing/editing failure. the first (non-heading) prose on the page says: 'Great events. Inspiring speakers. Fresh ideas straight from the region. NUEDIGITAL 2026 is now live, with sessions from global companies, local startups, and rising stars happening all across the Nuremberg metro area." which says
#
[tantek]
nothing specific about this event. multiple events/people/ideas, perhaps corporate of various sizes, yet nothing about topics, themes, relevance, connections etc. could be anything
#
[tantek]
(I had to dig into the about to find this sentence which finally gets at something specific to this series of events: "The festival is for anyone curious about digital transformation and ready to help drive digital transformation together.")
#
[tantek]
(that said, "digital transformation" sounds a bit buzzwordy and could be hyperlinked to what the organizers believe that means, or at least expand upon it. I mean it might have made sense on its own maybe in the 1980s?)

[New Event] tantek.com created "Jun 22 - Jul 2, 2026 Nürnberg Digital Festival" https://events.indieweb.org/e69XQowN6q2H

it sounds like you're supposed to go to the calendar and find event info there https://nuernberg.digital/en/community-calendar
#
[tantek]
except they want you to create a login. anybody that wants you to create a login / identity should really be telling you what/who they are and giving you a reason why you should be creating an overall login.
#
aaronpk
to *submit* an event
#
[tantek]
no no, even to *register* for any of the events
#
aaronpk
i see an airtable calendar when i click the button there
#
[tantek]
(I read it in the FAQ)
#
[tantek]
for example, someone understood the importance of writing up a summary of what the festival is, at least on their Flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/people/100210559@N03/ — so why isn't there a brief version of that on their home page?
#
[tantek]
^ that has plenty of relevant, specific details
