[social] Answer to the FrESH question I had now has a resolution, it was a browser issue as I expected. The different browsers having very different render times and lag (with Safari really lagging after many (40+) modifications to the filtering) pointed to the browser and not the code (the way the database calls are made is relatively light for what it is doing thanks to my goofy data model from 25+ years ago).
