So maybe a dumb question (as an educator I say these do not exist). I know that [jgmac1106] will have some thoughts here. Is Known ready now or what does it need to implement a #DoOO course setup ala what many of us have been doing with WordPress and FeedWordPress ?

[ken] yes and no, for my first year undergrads (not computer science not grads) I do something like wordpress.com....I used to use Known when Reclaim kept updates current but they stopped since 0.92
#
[kenbauer]
My question is more from the course side. The RSS subscriptions to populate the "mothership homebase". I prefer to allow students to choose any blog that produces decent RSS that we can consume.
#
[jgmac1106]
so now Known requires you to set up an install, add composer, download package, and update..
#
[kenbauer]
So, the technical install is my problem in this scenario.
#
[jgmac1106]
....yes I did that as well but it became a support issue for me....I had to make tutorials for all the platforms
#
[jgmac1106]
I use a planet on my site

#
[jgmac1106]
the plumbing for a native reader is 90% done in Known as well as federation
#
[jgmac1106]
...but it isn't done
#
[jgmac1106]
I am actually more interested in making sure the blogs I use have an h-feed not rss, makes my life so much easier
#
[kenbauer]
okay, this is a long term project. Throwing ideas around for summer projects and the rest of 2019
#
[jgmac1106]
edu522.jgregorymcverry.com used WordPress but I made folks use IndieWeb themes
#
[kenbauer]
for now, the FeedWordPress setup "just works" for a course site.
#
[jgmac1106]
but what I am doing in Ghana is working swimmingly, one domain, each learner on a subdomain....
#
[kenbauer]
My other project (discussed with Laura Gibbs on Twitter) is getting a gradebook into that WordPress setup
#
[jgmac1106]
though for this to work I would have to have the 20 or so sites ready to roll for students
#
[kenbauer]
Good model for sure. For my population of students, I like to push them to setup their own.
#
[jgmac1106]
going to do a session on rubrics at NHV for the critical gradebook work
#
[kenbauer]
sounds nice.
#
[jgmac1106]
I laid out a domain, indicator, and attribute, need to mkae single domain with indicators, and then an holistic rubric
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah you are computer science, first assignment should be choose and set up a blog....though I would push you to microformats over rss as then you can put everyone in a social reader
#
[kenbauer]
good thoughts.
#
[jgmac1106]
ohhh BTW Cameroon and Medillin want to do the same thing we are doing in Guadalajara and Accra
#
[jgmac1106]
your social reader becomes your critical gradebook
#
[kenbauer]
from the connectivism perspective I want to put more emphasis on the micro. Blogging for some longer post assignments but encourage the connecting via perhaps microformats which I had attempted via Twitter in the past. But there was resistance to using Twitter.
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah long term I want to develop some tutorial chat bots
#
[jgmac1106]
I refuse to make students sign up for Twitter. Violation of my principle to say "you must give away your data"
#
[jgmac1106]
so for Ghana we did, riot.fm for chat, everyone gets a Known site, and we have wiki for common knowledge base....basically copying everything we do here
#
[jgmac1106]
so in my current class flow you have to do reading posts, either blocqkoqures and analysis or picture of your notes, then you synthesize in a writing post, and then there is a performance activity
#
[kenbauer]
that link for Riot is a band.... ??
#
[kenbauer]
ah, you linked fm, not im 🙂

[kenbauer]
thanks Greg.
