# [jgmac1106] can I build an RSS feed that is everything but replies?
# jeremycherfas Interesting question. To which I do not have an answer.
# [jgmac1106] I guess what I would do is build the feed and keep all content types in it but leave replies out
# [jgmac1106] trying to handle misjointed conversation threads that don't translate cross platform
# jeremycherfas But aren't replies a specific form of Status updates? So how do you include Status updates that are not replies?
# [jgmac1106] https://example.withknown.com/content/replies/?_t=rss and Status updates - https://example.withknown.com/content/statusupdates/?_t=rss ohh I see what you are saying
# [jgmac1106] satus updatdes will include all replies
# [jgmac1106] which means I have to go back to using a hashtag that I will alsways foget to include
# [jgmac1106] ....I think instead I will just continue my post diarrhea over different silos, I don't care if people unfollow me, not writing for them anyways, besides encourage folks to add me to their reader rather than social netowrks
# [jgmac1106] on another note and welcome to advice from all. I am relaunching elmcitywebmakers.com at https://eachchildlearns.org/ and we want to follow our goifnetwork.org model of giving participants a Known instance
# [jgmac1106] problem is I am having a harder and harder time updating and maintaining on my shared host. Haven't been able to get q clean install of latest build going yet
# jeremycherfas Fair enough. My only caveat would be if people associate IndieWeb with context-less postings that hijack the timeline. Depending on the raio of those to more meaningful stuff, I can see that being a problem for some people.
# [jgmac1106] yeah haven't figured out the perfect flow yet, might try seeing what I can do with the new caterogies in micro.blog
# [jgmac1106] if I could build feeds without replies....would solve a bunch
# [jgmac1106] I was thinking abotu learning more about: https://indiecomputing.com/products/ubosbox-nextcloud-on-raspberrypi/ and also check out their admin options
# [jgmac1106] anyone have experience, feel free to contact me off list as well
# jeremycherfas Interesting question as to whether Known is the best CMS to act as your primary place, if you are going to use Known's RSS to syndicate, or syndicate manually.
# [jgmac1106] Known is my scaffold as I learn to build each feature into my own Domain....may fade away or just fade into a blog engine once [mapkyca] realizes his dream
# [jgmac1106] but really it is micro.blog doing a bunch of plumbing....the tumblr integration has been real fun, discovering entire communities of poets and writers
# [jgmac1106] the strangest discombobulation occurs when folks follow [jgmac1106]@stream.jgregorymcverry.com
# jeremycherfas I'm totally with you. Known does the job while I slowly build aspects of micropub into Grav. But I'm also much less engaged than you are. Tumblr can die in a fire as far as I am concerned, but that's another story that I have bored on about far too often.
# [jgmac1106] I was think mblaney's Ihazawebsite instead of Known as well, investigating both for New Haven and Accra, I am just having a real hard time with the admintax
# [jgmac1106] I did mock up this plugin yesterday for Known: https://jgregorymcverry.com/notes/2019-11-13-1
# [jgmac1106] I was able to shift some grant money around and fund the course builder and a webmention badges plugin
# jeremycherfas Cool.
# mapkyca You should be able to build a feed without replies, as they are a different entity type (or were). They weren't originally, then I made them that way, then Ben reverted that change for a time, and then I moved them back I think. Can't remember where we are on that, but pretty sure you can filter on them at least
# [jgmac1106] yep just checked https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/content/statusupdates/?_t=rss does not have replies
# [jgmac1106] gonna finish my annual reports and groom my POSSE feeds a bit
# [jgmac1106] mapkyca++

# [chrisaldrich] [jgmac1106] I recall you could build specific type custom feeds like /content/reviews/posts/events/watching/locations/ and then add the ?_t=rss to get specific RSS feeds. Just throw the replies tag on or not.
# [chrisaldrich] The equivalent in WordPress would be comma separated so: /kind/note,photo,listen,watch,favorite,bookmark,article,quote/feed/
# [chrisaldrich] Though that last requires the Post Kinds plugin, but roughly the same can be done with tags or categories as well.
# [jgmac1106] looks like replies were separated from status updates, so I will be able to do just that...
