Wondering if it makes sense to say https://indieweb.org/events/2017-07-12-homebrew-website-club#Virtual_Americas is from 25:30 to 27:30 UTC.
#
Zegnat
For online events I very much prefer normalised UTC time, but the UTC time is on the 13th :/
#
sebsel
You can do "(1:30 to 3:30 UTC [+1 day])"
#
sebsel
That's what they do on train / plane tickets, I believe.
[chrisaldrich] joined the channel
#
[chrisaldrich]
Zegnat, I thought about doing that, but very few American's can easily translate it easily (or know how) and I was worried no one would show up. ?
#
sebsel
[chrisaldrich] I think Zegnat was talking about adding it, not replacing the American times with it ;)
#
Zegnat
Yeah, just adding, like how PDT has been added to the EU one

I’m seeing an insecurity badge for <https://indieweb.org/wikifying>, due to a couple user thumbnails linked via HTTP.
#
jjuran
What’s the best path to getting those upgraded to HTTPS?
#
Zegnat
I don’t think there is any, other than keep asking people to upgrade to HTTPS.
#
Zegnat
And then there might be reasons people aren’t upgraded. E.g. I can’t on my current host.
#
jjuran
I checked one of them, and the corresponding HTTPS link works.
#
jjuran
But I don’t feel comfortable making the change to someone else’s user page.
#
Zegnat
Ah, that’s a more interesting question then: what if the same image is already accessible over HTTPS.
#
jjuran
Yeah, it’s just a matter of whether it’s culturally acceptable.
#
jjuran
What is a sparkline?
#
Loqi
A sparkline is a small, simple, data-dense graphic with typographic resolution that is shown inline and in-context with relevant text https://indieweb.org/sparkline

!tell sebsel I saw your train connection. You might pass the NL border at the place from where I will go by car. Maybe you missed that because I wrote it to Zegnat initially. Wouldn't it be clever to join the car somewhere between Emmerich and Duisburg ?
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
Zegnat
Are there any useful train connections to get there? Last time I needed to be in that area it told me to take a night train to Emmerich IIRC :/

petermolnar: I have a nightly mirror of the current content (mediawiki markup and images), but as far as I know there is no web-mirror
#
sknebel
(and I probably should have my snapshot keep more history than it does now, now that I think of it)
#

Zegnat - no there are not. That's what I meant, we need to go either "via" Venlo or Emmerich :) At least better than https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkMwAhft1GI . !tell sebsel We need to know how many people camp and how many sleep elsewhere …
#
schmarty
Baltimore HWC can do virtual, but so far we have only set it up when someone asks.

#
Zegnat
petermolnar, probably because rel-me is the easiest enhancement you can do on an existing site. And as soon as you have done that, you can start logging in to the wiki and tools like Telegraph. Good discussion for the main channel though.
#
Zegnat
schmarty, that's cool! Wonder if that's worth including on the event. Or did I read over it?

#

thoughts?
#
tantek
I need to put it on my site
#
Zegnat
KevinMarks brought it up
#
Zegnat
I have it on my site
#
Zegnat
I also created /Net_Neutrality today
#
tantek
hmm - that should be lowercase right? since it's a general concept rather than a specific named entity?
#
tantek
what is net neutrality?
#
Loqi
Net Neutrality is the idea that all data moving over the internet is treated the same, no matter between who it travels https://indieweb.org/Net_Neutrality
#
tantek
yeah, idea = general
#
tantek
but the event today is a specific thing / entity
#
Zegnat
Yes, I linked the event only on my specific “IndieWeb Example” on that page

sebsel: sl007 left you a message 3 hours, 50 minutes ago: I saw your train connection. You might pass the NL border at the place from where I will go by car. Maybe you missed that because I wrote it to Zegnat initially. Wouldn't it be clever to join the car somewhere between Emmerich and Duisburg ?
#

what is Battle for the Net
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Battle for the Net" yet. Would you like to create it?_
#
petermolnar
I'm guessing it has nothing to do with battle.net
#
tantek
Battle for the Net is https://www.battleforthenet.com/ a advocacy site that supports [[net neutrality]] and organized a [https://www.battleforthenet.com/july12/ campaign for 2017-07-12].
#
tantek
hey Kaja bot do your thing :)
#
tantek
net neutrality << Battle for the Net
#
Loqi
ok, I added "[[Battle for the Net]]" to the "See Also" section of /net_neutrality
#
sebsel
!tell sl007 I have a train ticket all the way now, so it's probably easier to just take that? It was not very expensive, so that's fine. Is there actually a camping with sleeping in tents and stuff? :o
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
tantek
I was documenting these one day campaign things somewhere
#
tantek
what is a banner
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "banner" yet. Would you like to create it?
#
tantek
what is a one day banner
#
Loqi
one day banner is a feature on some sites where they show a banner at or near the top of the page as a call to action for something for that day in particular, like a protest or an election https://indieweb.org/one_day_banner
#
Zegnat
ah, that describes what I am doing really well http://vanderven.se/martijn/
#
Loqi
Martijn van der Ven
#
tantek
Zegnat: add your example there instead
#
Zegnat
Has been done, tantek
#
tantek
great!
#
tantek
is now adding his one day banner for it too
#
tantek

#
jjuran
tantek: Your sparkline (using a Twitter profile image) doesn’t display.
#
jjuran
See https://indieweb.org/wikify under “Write down your itches”.
#
aaronpk
i see it
#
Zegnat
tantek, mine is without JS too. I am doing just the banner
#
jjuran
Bah. Shows in Chrome, not Firefox+NoScript.
#
sknebel
jjuran: do you maybe block twitter stuff on other sites?
#
jjuran
Oh, Privacy Badger is blocking twimg.com.
#
jjuran
It also blocked i.creativecommongs.org. :-P
#
jjuran
Ah, that’s Chris Aldrich.
#
jjuran
Now I’m only missing David Shanske from that list.
#
Zegnat
I never truly understood Privacy Badger. Atleast with uBlock I know exactly what I am blocking
#
tantek
I've turned off uBlock - it was ironically slowing EVERYTHING down A LOT
#
tantek
something's definitely wrong with uBlock's methods and I don't have time to track them down
#
jjuran
uBlock, or uBlock Origin?
#
tantek
I get far fewer spinny rainbow death wheels

Zegnat

#
tantek
does anyone remember if we've ever done a one page banner on indieweb.org (or indiewebcamp.com before that) ?
#
tantek
like for any reason
#
tantek
(I vaguely remember banners for upcoming IndieWebCamps, but that might have been pre-2016 mediawiki/theme update)
#
aaronpk
yeah i think it was only for the next indiewebcamp
#
tantek
should we do one for Battle for the Net? I would be in favor
#
tantek
I just deployed one on tantek.com that is zero JS, zero images, re-uses the text / colors from one of the "banner" ad options on their site

#
[chrisaldrich]
+1 for a banner
#
aaronpk
i'd be up for it. i'd prefer to just drop their js script tag in it, way less work
#
tantek
aaronpk I'm ok with that
#
tantek
lesswork++
#
Loqi
lesswork has 1 karma
#
Zegnat
Is there one for just the banner? Or is it always with the whole modal in stuff. Not sure IndieWeb.org should add all the other fancies
#
aaronpk
check it out, just added
#
aaronpk
the modal is fine cause as soon as you dismiss it it stays gone
#
petermolnar
out of curiosity, had anyone tried https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RetroShare ?
#
Loqi
RetroShare
#
tantek
I see the scrip tis live
#
schmarty
petermolnar: i installed an ran retroshare for a bit. at the time the OS X version had some issues with joining the "main" community that I found, so i kind of gave up, having no one in my social network to connect using it.
#
petermolnar
I have a feeling it's like the tor sites; you'd expect interesting topics, like phone phreaking used to be, instead it's tinfoil hat people and actual black market only
#
schmarty
if i understand its design, i think it is built so that you can use it to communicate only with people you want. a kind of bring-your-own-community problem.
#
schmarty
i imagine you are correct about the people that call themselves the "retroshare community"

how do we deal with regular HWCs that miss a date - include on page and explicitly call out "back on..." (and of course don't have an h-card, so they are not in the newsletter?), or leave out?

Depends on what the organiser wants.
