What is redirect?
#
Loqi
A redirect is a way to automatically make one page on this wiki load another page https://indieweb.org/redirect
#
tantek
that's worth expanding
#
gRegorLove
What is jargon?
#
Loqi
jargon is a specific unobvious word, concept, or technology (like Webmention), or re-use of a word to mean something other than its common meaning (like feed), or sometimes re-using a word as an acronym (like POSSE) https://indieweb.org/jargon
#
gRegorLove
How about "a redirect is a way to indicate that one URL / silo profile is no longer used and where the person can be found currently." with Why and How To section stubs?
#
tantek
yeah something more general
#
tantek
at least three uses AFAIK
#
tantek
redirect: Wiki #redirect (current dfn), 301/302, silo->indie quit post redirecting

With the risk of "plz don'ts": how about reviewing the Slack-channels in next leaders summit (is there any this year?) It might be an idea to add a #getting-started channel to the Slack, in which we explicitly say that there are no dumb questions?
#
sebsel
It's hard to keep #indieweb 'clean' of jargon, but such a place would be easier to maintain jargon-free.
#
tantek
modest proposal: Category:jargon
#
tantek
Loqi caches the list of terms that are jargon
#
tantek
when Loqi sees you use jargon in #indieweb (perhaps with some threshold, like 2+ jargon terms in a statement, or 2+ statements in a row with any jargon), Loqi nudges you to move your conversation to #indieweb-dev
#
aaronpk
i can do that
#
aaronpk
I like it
#
aaronpk
esp with the threshold
#
tantek
right, so snarfed would have triggered it with ssl cert (two words)
#
tantek
what is ssl
#
Loqi
HTTPS is an abbreviation for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, a form of HTTP where the communication is encrypted https://indieweb.org/ssl
#
tantek
this might force us to un-redirect some pages to mark them as jargon
#
tantek
without marking e.g. HTTPS as jargon
#
tantek
what is a cert
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "cert" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "cert is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#

Loqi

#
[eddie]
That seems like a really cool idea!
#
[eddie]
It always feels odd to be “that guy” that asks people to redirect convos, but it’s not a big deal to be on the receiving end of that request
#
[eddie]
So if we make Loqi “that thing” that pushes conversations, makes it smoother 🙂
#
[eddie]
or at least more consistent
#
tantek
teaching Loqi how to be bossy
#
tantek
we could even vary the phrasing
#
tantek
"Actually, anything regarding jargon like ssl and cert is better discussed in #indieweb-dev"
#
tantek
"Interesting. Though perhaps better to follow-up regarding jargon like ssl and cert in #indieweb-dev?"
#
sebsel
tantek++ yeah!

"Loqi nudges snarfed in the direction of #indieweb-dev for anything ssl or cert related"
#
gRegorLove
Heh, please no "actually" :)
#
gRegorLove
+1 on the general idea though!
#
tantek
gRegorLove: how about only if the statement it is responding to started with "Actually, "
#
gRegorLove
That'd be funny

hey did Loqi get updated to be consistent about newsletter at 15:00 Friday Pacific time (independently of DST) ?
#
tantek
or is it too late?
#
aaronpk
I think so
#
aaronpk
Well I updated it for now but it will switch back in November
#
tantek
so do we have ~50 min then to keep editing?
#
tantek
sebsel re: Slack [#getting-started], do you mean Slack-only?
#
tantek
and logged or unlogged?
#
tantek
ok let's start on this jargon thing
#
sebsel
Well definitely more aimed at Slack, I suppose, but it's neat to bridge it anyway.
#
sebsel
Not sure about logging.
#
sebsel
I think IRC attracts more people who are into the jargon.
#
aaronpk
If it's not bridged then I wouldn't ever see what's going on there :-P
#
[eddie]
I think logging would be useful primarily as we would be able to search and see how often certain topics come up and/or be able to easily reference the fact that people asked questions when trying to move certain aspects of the IndieWeb forward towards Gen 3 & 4
#
tantek
aaronpk you could subscribe to the WebSub h-feed of the #getting-started logs
#
tantek
in your nifty reader setup :)
#
tantek
[eddie] agreed
#
aaronpk
In order to make the h-feed I need it to be bridged to IRC so that Loqi picks up the messages :-)
#
aaronpk
I do have big dreams of making an h-feed that is a digest of the logs tho
#
aaronpk
I was thinking if nobody has said anything for a "while" then it could post the last chunk of logs as a new h-entry
toomim joined the channel
#
[eddie]
Hmmm, that’s interesting. So each h-entry would be a chunk of conversation all within a given time period
#
[eddie]
And it would all relatively be on the same “topic” because it would be bordered by silence
#
aaronpk
That's the idea!
#
[eddie]
Thats cool
#
aaronpk
Should be good enough to catch up on things
#
sebsel
Oh, especially that.
#
aaronpk
Also doesn't have to be perfect
#
[eddie]
Yeah, that’s interesting because with chat.indieweb.org I always have to figure out where I left off
#
tantek
what is a conversation
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "conversation" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "conversation is ____", a sentence describing the term)

!tell gRegorlove re: mentioning musicians depending on FB, I found this classic looking indie musician DJ site which I really liked for its simplicity http://www.davepearce.co.uk/ and used as an excuse to create a whole page for the subject: https://indieweb.org/musician - feel free to expand with more examples
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
tantek
note: if you're a web dev agency, perhaps make sure your home page isn't just an Apache start page: http://www.neutroncore.com/ linked to from the aforementioned davepearce musician site
#
tantek
what is Testing 123..
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Testing 123.." yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Testing 123.. is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
tantek
Testing 123.. is the default top level heading (h1) of a new Apache HTTP server installation and indicates that the site-owner has setup Apache but has not configured it to serve any specific content yet. Example: http://www.neutroncore.com/ (as of 2018-03-23)
