Where do these Loqi posts come from? What is superfeedr?
#
ancarda
What is superfeedr?
#
Loqi
Superfeedr provides a variety of ways to access real-time feed updates, including a popular PubSubHubbub-0.4 compliant hub https://indieweb.org/Superfeedr
#
ancarda
So if my blog implements PubSubHubbub, will posts show up here?
#
sknebel
and you ping superfeedr's hub or someone uses their feed-following product to follow your feed
#
ancarda
Hmm, I'll have to add that to my new post pipeline

For now, I could setup RSS -- is that a thing people still setup on (IndieWeb) pages?
#
sknebel
(or probably more commonly Atom)

[schmarty]
in Loqi's case, I believe those posts come from searching superfeedr for any mentions of certain keywords like indieweb in all posts that superfeedr is aware off. aaronpk knows for sure.
#

I never learned Atom

https://indiewebify.me/ has a good list of things you should do; sort out sign-in, publish h-entry content, setup WebMentions. Is there a list of things to do after you have done those?
#
[schmarty]
ancarda: it's not too late to learn Atom. also, granary.io can convert some feed types (like microformats2 h-feed) into atom automatically. i use it for my site's Atom feed.
#
ancarda
Improving how I handle WebMentions is on my list
#
ancarda
Do you self-host that code, or do you link directly to the page that is spitting out the Atom files?
#
[schmarty]
i don't mind granary.io hosting it, so for now i link there directly. i should probably replace the <link> with a URL i control that redirects temporarily to granary, though.
#
[schmarty]
also this sounds more like -dev talk
#
ancarda
Sure, let's switch to #dev

@mrkhdly @wearwolfking I just don’t like corporate sponsors of any kind for an indie establishment of any kind, it instantly ruins it for me

gRegorLove: I'd say anyone can step up and do the work of organizing a Homebrew Website Club meetup to start (without any sponsors if you like), show that you can make that happen, and that'll show you may be able to run an IndieWebCamp

gRegorLove: does your tweet reply posting UI let you remove people from the canoe?
#
aaronpk
how do you do that on twitter?
#
gRegorLove
No, but I'll PESOS
#
aaronpk
oh wow there's a whole interface for it
#
gRegorLove
Click the "Replying to" line
#
tantek
aaronpk: I do it all the time
#
gRegorLove
Quite user unfriendly, esp. on mobile
#
aaronpk
I don't go to twitter.com anymore so I haven't seen that before
#
tantek
maybe because I still use custom Falcon code to POSSE my @-replies?
#
aaronpk
is this in the API?
#
tantek
no if you use the "older" tweet posting API, you don't get an auto-canoe
#
tantek
so all my @-replies have explicit @-s
#
aaronpk
I get auto-canoes using the API
#
tantek
so I always get full control :D
#
aaronpk
oh wow
#
tantek
this is one of the benefits of NOT always auto-updating all the things
#
tantek
your code still works as expected
#
aaronpk
auto_populate_reply_metadata=true with exclude_reply_user_ids=... to list particular users to be removed from the canoe
#
gRegorLove
I use Bridgy Publish usually so get the auto-canoe

tantek: good suggestion to engage the positive people first. Will try to remember that.
#
tantek
it's all too easy (default threat response prioritization) to respond to the most negative people first.
#
gRegorLove
Definitely gives a better feeling to say thanks to someone and get a like (dopamine, woo!) than a brush-off response.
#
tantek
literally takes conscious effort to do the opposite (have been trying to practice this for years and it *still* takes lots of conscious effort, and I still often forget)
#
tantek
yeah!

aaronpk related, Gitea support in IndieLogin
#
tantek
do Gitea profile URLs support rel=me?
#
aaronpk
Once they support IndieAuth I won't have to do anything special for it ;-)
#
tantek
whoa really?
#
aaronpk
Possibly. They are interested
#
tantek
I mean it really works like that?
#
aaronpk
Yeah it would just look like anyone else's IndieAuth server
#
tantek
IndieLogin -> enter personal domain -> discovers rel=me to Gitea profile -> ???
#
aaronpk
Well no, you'd be able to type in a Gitea profile url as an IndieAuth identity
#
tantek
nearly no one has "anyone else's IndieAuth server"
#
tantek
right I mean as a replacement to the current rel=me to a GitHub profile
#
aaronpk
Everyone running WordPress can be their own IndieAuth server now
#
tantek
can be vs how many examples are there documented on the wiki?
#
aaronpk
Back to your original question
#
tantek
And here I thought I asked the right question
#
aaronpk
Turns out there isn't really any benefit to the silo you use to authenticate to include rel=me
#
tantek
it reduces errors
#
aaronpk
Have you read my post about twitter and IndieAuth.com? I tried to explain it there
#
aaronpk
Doing the rel=me check ahead of time adds a significant delay before you can press that button, especially if there are multiple accounts. I tried to work around that on IndieAuth.com by 1) caching the list, which of course introduced caching errors, and 2) doing that verification with JS so at least you don't have to wait for a slow page load
#
aaronpk
Even after you do the rel=me check ahead of time, you still have to check which user actually authenticated after they log in, at which point you're fetching their silo profile which also includes their URL
#
aaronpk
So I dropped the backlink check from the twitter profile web page and instead I check for the backlink via the API
#
aaronpk
I have to use the API anyway so it wasn't extra work
#
tantek
I misunderstood - I thought you were dropping Twitter support
#
aaronpk
I did from indieauth.com
#
aaronpk
but it's in indielogin.com because I fundamentally changed how it's silo auth works
#
tantek
and the wiki uses indielogin?
#
aaronpk
I did a big push on that yesterday to flip the switch
#
tantek
ohhh ok
#
aaronpk
Which is also part of why I dropped it from IndieAuth.com last week, cause I knew I was close
#
aaronpk
And it would take a huge refactor to fix it for IndieAuth.com

[tboerger] #27 Integrate an OAuth2 provider
#

I suggested they implement an IndieAuth server as a way of implementing OAuth so that apps don't have to register before hand
#
tantek
ooh good reply re: OIDC
#
tantek
that's worthy of adding to IndieAuth FAQ
#
tantek
it's a very subtle but important difference
#
Loqi
[aaronpk] Not quite, since OpenID Connect still requires registering clients to get client credentials to use with the flows. There is a dynamic client registration part of OpenID Connect, but this allows you to entirely bypass the need for registering clients...
#
aaronpk
True. That's the one that matters now that everyone has forgotten about OpenID 1
#
tantek
right

Why should I implement IndieAuth instead of or in addition to OpenID Connect?
