@ChrisAldrich
↩️ This sounds a lot like the Microsub spec which abstracts and separates the parsing and displaying of content. There are already several separate server and reader implementations if you're interested in tinkering. https://indieweb.org/Microsub https://boffosocko.com/2018/12/31/55739705/

Though @austinkleon doesn't specifically come right out and say it, this article is very pro #IndieWeb and particularly so for artists and people who are promoting themselves on the web. https://boffosocko.com/2018/12/31/you-dont-have-to-live-in-public-indieweb/

kisik21: it's because of the last spam wave a couple of months ago
#
kisik21
I know, but chat-names people seem to be already more trusted, why not relax that restriction for them?
#
Zegnat
I am not sure all these people have registered the nickname on freenode, or if Loqi knows the difference between authenticated users and unauthenticated. This being IRC, you can actually join a channel with a username from chatnames (given that person isn’t online) and spam before the name changes
#
Zegnat
Not sure how big of an issue that would be in reality, but still
#
@autiomaa
@indiewebcamp Getting a "504 Gateway Time-out" error from your website. Might make sense to reboot something.
(twitter.com/_/status/1080091434756247558)
#
@autiomaa
↩️ @indiewebcamp Another "502 Bad Gateway" error after that. But confusingly some requests pass to the server, as https://indieweb.org/this-week/2018-12-14.html URL worked properly. Is the gateway caching broken?
(twitter.com/_/status/1080092004325969920)
#
Zegnat
Huh. Looks like a MediaWiki problem if other pages load. And aaronpk.com seems to load too.
#
sknebel
probably php backend crashed or something
#
sknebel
afaik Loqi already considers chat-names. you'll note though that chat-names is on the wiki :D

Loqi has kicked me off of #indieweb ???
#
sknebel
yes, spam false positive
#
metbril
Indieweb.org is down. 502 bad gateway.
#
sknebel
also, repeating that the wiki is down doesn't fix it faster
#
metbril
No, but I did not get a response that someone was already aware of this. :)
#
metbril
The wiki is a SPOF, because I can't find who and how to contact about this.
#
metbril
The chat is only appropriate if someone is online at that moment
#
@martijnvdven
The #IndieWeb wiki on https://indieweb.org/ is down for the count. It should be kicked back up when the PST time zone wakes up into 2019. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry, you have to be listed on https://indieweb.org/irc-people before you can help retweet
#

Here I thought I could smartly share the message, but of course that too is impossible
#
metbril
thanks, zegnat
#
metbril
BTW, what does "the count" mean? Is this an English expression? I'm Dutch.
#
Zegnat
It is a sports metaphore. Down for the count is laying in the floor in such a way that the umpire starts the 10 second count down

I'm not sure it is enforced with a ban at all, I think you can just rejoin

Most of the time it is fine, spam control just doesn’t like people posting a link in their first message / first x seconds
#
metbril
OK. I will take this into account next time.
#
Zegnat
The spam filter may be on the way out though, it has calmed down *a lot*
#
sknebel
filed a loqi issue for it to not throw away chat-names cache if there's a problem
#
Zegnat
That sounds like a fix, also for the twitter issue
#
Zegnat
still thinks some of these credentials need spreading around if we don’t want to move to managed hosting for stuff
#
sknebel
yeah, at least for the core bits
#
sebsel
We could also at least customize the nginx 503 page to be a bit more user friendly :)
