Q) Explain @IndieWeb? A) Well, the basic idea is that you should have your own website. That's it. Instead of publishing your data primarily on other platforms, publish it on your own website first (and then syndicate to other platforms if you like). By @adactio #indieweb

!tell [tantek] I know fluffy raised IndieAuth with Mastodon, if it counts as a feature request issue: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/4800#issuecomment-447593888

[fluffy-critter] OpenID is pretty much dead in the water but having Mastodon instances provide IndieAuth would be really great, as it would make it a lot easier for people to join in on IndieWeb stuff without having to set up their own website.

Zegnat perhaps reply to HWC Brussels and ask if they need help with getting their events on the wiki since you clearly can’t depend on the Twitter silo
#
Zegnat
They had their own indie events. But looks like they not only lost the twitter account but also their entire website.
#
Zegnat
Didn’t have access to my Twitter account at work though, I can reply to them after dinner now that I am home :)
#
[tantek]
Ouch that’s worse. Maybe ask them what happened to their indie website? And are there any lessons there that they can share for the rest of us to learn from?
#
[tantek]
IndieWeb vs dev channel: what do people think about markup discussions? Should we encourage them to be moved to the dev channel? Or is it helpful for everyone to learn some markup basics?
#
Zegnat
If you want to keep jargon out of main, encourage move to dev as soon as something looks “code-y”?
#
Zegnat
e.g. “<p>a<p>b</p>c</p> becomes <p>a</p><p>b</p>c<p></p>” looks code-y to me
#
[tantek]
that's what I'm wondering, but I keep seeing organizers perpetuate it, so I can only assume they intend to have markup discussions in the general channel. that's why I asked here explicitly
#
Zegnat
I personally find it hard to point someone to a different channel if my answer is going to be one or two lines. Like that one today where the answer to a question is that <p> cannot be nested inside <p>. Those type of questions are definitely the ones I slip up on

Zegnat, I agree with short answers, however it is not either or. You can provide the short answer *and* request follow-up questions / discussion be moved to dev.
