What we didn't know: Since many years there is an independent, general and open specification for RSVPs on the web: https://indieweb.org/rsvp. It allows people to RSVP to your events just using their social channels. Awesome! E.g. used by https://2019.indieweb.org/berlin @indiewebcamp

Was poking around GitHub and found I have a few nearly-year-old pull requests on two IndieWeb-related specs:
#
[jgarber]
Are those repos still maintained? Any chance those PRs could get handled? Or, should I close them out?
#
Zegnat
I don’t remember how we are handling the W3 stuff, since editors are only allowed to make minor edits to them..?

[eddie]
Zegnat: yeah the w3c stuff is still getting figured out I think. Most recent thought aaronpk had was I think W3C released a new evergreen type standard that might align nicely but it hadn’t been fully investigated yet. If that happened then I think they would be able to update them more
#
[eddie]
Ohh those PRs are typos with the existing standard
#
sknebel
if I remember correctly, only editorial changes can be done, and they also have to go through W3C folks and can't be applied directly by the authors anymore
#

#

Yeah those should be fixable... I think
#
[eddie]
Ahhh “also have to go through W3C folks” that’s good to know

[tantek]
Lots of misconceptions about “the W3C stuff” 😞
#
[tantek]
Please don’t make up / hypothesize unless you actually know / we’re involved in the WG
#
[tantek]
Short answer: for anything “official” W3C, yes they would only be able to accept editorial errata.
#
[tantek]
However, when the WG closed it was clear it was totally ok for the IndieWeb community to keep maintaining the live editors drafts, and pointing to them
#
[tantek]
So yes, we should be keeping the editors drafts up to date with resolved issues etc
#
[tantek]
Including outstanding pull requests assuming they link to an issue that shows a resolution by consensus
#
[tantek]
[jgarber] [Zegnat] [eddie] [sknebel]
#
[tantek]
And you can ignore any “in progress” W3C process stuff for now like the “evergreen” stuff.
#
[tantek]
Also there is no need to wait or coordinate with anyone “at W3C”
#
[tantek]
Please keep fixing and updating the specs (per consensus issue resolutions). Even better if the issues can have explicit labels like “editorial” or “new feature” as needed
#
[tantek]
That’ll make it easier to send W3C snapshots in the future if we care to do so
#
[tantek]
Also every change should (maybe they already do?) update the “Changes” section to list any/all edits since the REC
#
[tantek]
Happy to answer any other W3C related questions. But none of that should block us iterating on specs.
#
[tantek]
[jgarber] I’m guessing you may have to ping [aaronpk] about his prioritization of maintaining those specs and work with him accordingly
#
[tantek]
(Insert my usual gripe about GitHub overhead for maintaining specs vs just “editing them on a wiki” )

aaronpk: [tantek] left you a message 1 day ago: just noticed that https://indieweb.org/this-week/2019-04-26.html doesn't seem to have anything about where to sign-up for the newsletter, e.g. if someone forwards one in email to another person, there's no obvious place to go to read more, sign-up or follow feeds etc.

As best as I can tell, GitHub issue labels are the purview of the repository’s maintainers and are out-of-reach of those filing issues, commenting on issues, creating PRs, etc. ☹
