@DanielRufde
↩️ Not so uncommon for (free) meetups, barcamps and events (high noshow rates). This is also one of the reasons why @unkonf sells tickets for a small price now. 1/3 is not much but this can be also because of the day.

↩️ @DanielRufde @webrocker @indiewebcamp @unkonf It's always the same problem with free events... :/

#
@DanielRufde
↩️ True. I often try to find the problems and suggest a few solutions for meetups. For example we have collected feedback. Based on this we have improved the format of @FrontendRN and made it a bit different than others. Worked very well. But I guess this weekend is not the best.

aaronpk: how are the after lunch videos being published? Was switching to the more interactive meetings in zoom an issue with getting the videos online?
#
aaronpk
so it turns out that it's too hard to stream to youtube from the zoom webinars directly
#
aaronpk
so switching to the meeting style instead of webinar style isn't any different otherwise
#
aaronpk
in both cases the videos get stored in the zoom website when they are done, and have to be downloaded and uploaded later
#
@shochdoerfer
↩️ compared to other barcamps @unKonf charges a bit more but for what we offer it's a bargain. Only very few past attendees haven't bought tickets after we announced the change.

#
Zegnat
aaronpk: that is really too bad about streaming to YouTube. Would have been a big positive feature in my opinion.
#
Zegnat
So you just uploaded all the pre-lunch videos manually to YouTube over lunch? I thought it was Zoom’s doing that got them published this quickly
#
[Rose]
We are going to try streaming to Twith
#
[Rose]
*Twitch
#
aaronpk
in order for the webinar streaming to work we would have to use laptops and not ipads
#
[Rose]
So the Zoom to YouTube stream only works if you start the stream on the laptop
#
[Rose]
I'm too slow
#
aaronpk
yeah i uploaded a bunch over the lunch break
#
Zegnat
I do really like Twitch, it replaced cable for me for an entire year. But part of me feels the web interface makes it less accessible and discoverable than YouTube’s
#
aaronpk
if you go to twitch.tv/indieweb there's a giant play button and it kinda just works
#
Zegnat
Well, you got your first follower ;)
#
Zegnat
But we can’t have multiple streams on Twitch, right? So no live-streaming sessions
#
aaronpk
i believe that is true
#
aaronpk
but zoom for sessions works great
#
Zegnat
Zoom worked really well for me too, yeah, not knocking it.
#
aaronpk
this goes back to the broadcast vs participation needs being very different
#
Zegnat
I just really like to be able to point people at a non-interactive stream
#
aaronpk
right that's what twitch is for
#
Zegnat
Very true. I guess I might see both broadcast *and* participation needs for some sessions. Which very few platforms seem to cover.
#
Zegnat
(Apart from Hangouts Live, or whatever that was called.)
#
aaronpk
there's also the possibility of combining them
#
aaronpk
for example remote demos
#
aaronpk
streaming on twitch, then connect a zoom laptop at the podium here
#
Zegnat
Interesting. Yes. Though I for one probably cannot watch the stream on Twitch while also connect through Zoom because of bandwidth limitations. So would be awkward switching from consuming broadcast into participation mode
#
Zegnat
Unless I can somehow watch the Twitch stream through the Zoom app :P
#
Zegnat
Not important now, I will not be demoing anything today. Am also looking forward to getting a demo of Zoom in Utrecht!

Ah. We don’t have on the fly encoding. Seems like I am having huge issues running the 1080p stream on my bandwidth. I am out.
#
Zegnat
This, BTW, is one of the reasons I love YouTube
#
Zegnat
Going to my own dedicated 4G through my phone made it better. But I still had some stutters in tantek’s presentation. Enough that I will prefer to watch VODs later. Have fun all!
#
aaronpk
Oh darn! I thought twitch would be good about that
#
Zegnat
It is. But you do not automatically get reencoding last I checked
#
Zegnat
It is distributed based on current demand and size of the stream, last I looked into it
#
Zegnat
So if there are few streams going, you might get lucky and get it on yours. If many streams are going you are prioritised based on a number of factors like size of channel/audience etc.

#

#

Note that is from quick read through the Twitch subreddit. Having a hard time finding authorative information. Probably because it is a queueing thing and Twitch doesn’t want to tell people about what they use for priorities

[Rose] Not yet, we talked about it this weekend I would do one on the basics of indieweb but also the small theme we have as in "find the others". > It’s, of course, safe to assume that a web of personal websites will never be an equivalent substitute for a social network like Twitter. But that’s also not the goal. Personal websites are called personal websites because they are just that: personal. Thus, the primary objective still is to have a place to express ourselves, to explore ourselves, a place that lasts while the daily storms pass by.
