aaronpk, "Tags" is a decent top level nav link item
#
[tantek]
or if you want to be trendy, call it "Discover" 😛
#
aaronpk
actually...
#
aaronpk
i kind of like "discover" because it means i can do things other than tags there
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, re: confusion of which indie event to RSVP to, the need for an actual ticket is the right UI to disable an RSVP somewhere else
#
[tantek]
(yes the 😛 was only 1/2 😉, "Discover" is a fairly common nav item these days, and incorporates tags, people/accounts, and sometimes search too)
#
[tantek]
rather than a [x] needs ticket checkbox, the pre-existing UI for this is a Ticket URL: [ ____ ] field, which if non-empty (e.g. filled in with the 2020 indieweb org URL) should disable RSVPs to the event on events indieweb org.
#
aaronpk
I like that, right now there's only a "website" field, but having an explicit "ticket URL" field sounds like a reasonable way to also handle disabling RSVPs
#
aaronpk
would there be any other reasons to disable RSVPs than that?
#
[tantek]
don't worry about it until a concrete example comes up. maybe. but that's a future design iteration
#
[tantek]
premature generalization results in more confusing UI, more code, more bugs.
#
aaronpk
in that case i think i will implement an explicit "rsvps supported" property in the data model, but have that always be set based on whether or not there is a ticket URL
#
[tantek]
"Ticket URL" is a UI element from Facebook's event creation UI
#
aaronpk
that'll let me add additional UI or other rules later without as much change internally
#
[tantek]
right, I'm more concerned with the UI for now. how you implement it in the data model is an implementation detaill IMO :)
#
aaronpk
just thinking it through
#
aaronpk
if RSVPs are disabled, should it say anything about that? or just leave out the RSVP section and ignore RSVP webmentions?
#
[tantek]
yes leave out the RSVP section
#
[tantek]
instead link to the ticket URL (assuming it's a URL that *does* accept RSVPs)
#
[tantek]
or if it doesn't, e.g. an Eventbrite URL, then you may wish to provide the ability to RSVP to the indie event separately from the eventbrite ticket URL
#
aaronpk
so that's the question
#
aaronpk
does adding a ticket URL always disable RSVPs
#
aaronpk
i like the simplicity of that
#
aaronpk
and also that way it doesn't make it look like the ticket site is optional, whether or not that is an eventbrite or tito or other indie RSVP supporting url
#
[tantek]
you can either automate the [x] Ticket URL supports Indie RSVP, or imply it by doing webmention discovery on the ticket URL
#
[tantek]
since for now 100% of ticket URLs that accept webmentions also accept RSVPs
#
[tantek]
the simplicity of predictably disabling RSVPs by adding a ticket URL does have appeal
#
[tantek]
so if an organizer uses Eventbrite, they're basically making a policy decision that they care more about Eventbrite than supporting indie RSVPs

I have no idea why a bunch of old Publ blog posts ended up getting re-sent to IndieWeb News.
#
[fluffy]
oh, it looks like they got re-pung as https for some reason. weird.

you can remove the u-syndication link and re-webmention if you want to un-pung them as it were 🙂

I ended up just making https canonical since publ.beesbuzz.biz supports https now (it didn’t before when it was on heroku) and so at best I’d be, like, removing the old http posts and keeping the flood of new https ones around 😛

I need a weekend/alt Twitter and a ‘normal’ Twitter. If only I could subject content to specific timelines/feeds. Simply done on my IndieWeb site!
