[tantek] at least from my perspective, I've preferred to do invited keynotes to take on (some of) the responsibility of deliberately seeking out the quieter voices in our broader community, and especially those underrepresented. from what I've seen of formal application processes, they tend to bias towards those much more privileged, which feels counter to many of our community goals. anyway that's my imperfect in-process thinking
