#aaronpki know there was some talk about a similar idea for keynotes and demos of IWCs
#aaronpkright now i could just add each session as its own event, and then link to each one in the description of the main event, but i'm wondering if there should be any sort of special support for this kind of nested or sub-event use case
#aaronpki thought the request was for the keynotes and demos, since more often remote folks join specifically for those

#@juhaliikala↩️ I believe I followed after reading some indieweb related posts on your blog. Also, your Eleventy personal website repo has been super helpful learning ground, as I'm currently setting up my own journal on top of Eleventy too :) (twitter.com/_/status/1233743133441187840)

#[Jeff_Hawkins]I guess micro.blog is a little difficult to understand and work with but then again... Manton is always helping somebody there so any roadblocks are easily bypassed by asking how. And if you're at all into the Indieweb then you probably do create your content on your own site unless you feel micro.blog is the place you wish to create that bcontent.
#[Jeff_Hawkins]That's my goal anyway. Micro.blog seems to fit my purposes as part of that 'dream'. Other's ideals probably look different and that's good.
#[Jeff_Hawkins]My personal 'best solution or scenario' would be a box under my desk with WordPress on it and that syndicated upwards to my blog and my blog firmly connected to the Fediverse.
#GWGWe've made a lot of progress in the time I've been part of the community
#[KevinMarks]Warren Ellis was on known for a while too
#sknebelI thought basic linking of M.B and WP is just telling M.B which feed to use?
#GWGsknebel: Yes, but I have a plugin that creates a custom feed for that
#sknebelwhich doesn't really mesh with "requires me to insert code into my WordPress install" to me
#aaronpkyeah i didn't understand what that was about
#sknebelwhich is why I wonder if I missed something or there's a misunderstanding
#[Jeff_Hawkins][sknebel] Yeah, that's about it really... But then again... on the WP side RSS feeds aren't all that apparent unless the meta widget is left in. And reading about it could really add to the confusion as WP's RSS/Atom options are right huge when you start exploring the documentation.
#[Jeff_Hawkins]I guess maybe I should look into that subject more and maybe write up something to help...

#[jgmac1106]I think user expectation from what I see across both slack channels is more a micropub expectation rather than posts in your stream
#[jgmac1106]people expect to publish on their WP site and have it live ON their micro.blog site but it just swimming in your stream
#[jgmac1106][Jeff_Hawkins] and many people are probably using the feeds generated by gwg post kind taxonomies
#GWG[jgmac1106]: Syndication Links generates a special feed as well
#[Jeff_Hawkins]I actually have post kinds and Syndication Links running myself but haven't explored that very much yet. And yes, post kinds expanded my feeds immensely.

#[manton]On that post from Warren Ellis… I was confused at first, but he's getting that message because his account on Micro.blog is from back before we automatically created a hosted blog for you. Basically he's on the "bring your own blog" path. (Not sure what the WordPress code was about. There's definitely no requirement for that.)
#[manton]It is a good reminder that this has to be more approachable for people who don't want to mess with blog plug-ins, etc. I think Micro.blog serves that need, but it's not free.
#[Jeff_Hawkins]He might have been talking about some other Indieweb stuff like the Auth items and 'rel=me' stuff that mystifies me still. I've seen your replies to help requests over there and I appreciate your efforts. I learn a lot from just being there.
#[manton]Yeah, also I think our WordPress help page is maybe too long and complicated. Half of the stuff on the page is optional and might scare someone off.
#[manton]It's a similar challenge on the IndieWeb wiki: how do you tell people what they need to know without leading them way off into the weeds with the technical stuff.
#[Jeff_Hawkins]BTW: I've been kicked out of two Mastodon servers recently. If I'm causing any problems over at Micro.blog I hope you'll tell me instead of just kicking me out like those two instances did. I didn't learn anything from that experience except to be glad I'm on my own site on the WordPress side.
#[manton]Interesting. Did you get any kind of notification when your account had been closed? We try to reach out to people first, because sometimes people just need a reminder. (Unless it's spam or harassment that really needs to stop right away.)
#aaronpki know some mastodon instances don't like when posts are imported from elsewhere. i remember hearing about some people who got their accounts deleted because they were syndicating to mastodon from twitter for example
#[manton]I decided to drop Warren Ellis a quick email in case it's helpful to explain the Micro.blog side of things and get his account working. There's a lot we could improve here.
#Loqi[manton] has 17 karma in this channel over the last year (58 in all channels)
#[Jeff_Hawkins]I doubt I'll ever join someone else's Mastodon but I might roll my own yet. I'm an content aggregator running an automated bookmarking site so it most likely was because I post bits of other's content but I'm trying to be careful with cross posts to where I don't cause a loop or anything.
