aaronpk: I actually think the community sentence should replace the "people-focused alternative" line, I always found that a bit too unclear
#
aaronpk
that line has been used in enough press about the indieweb that I think it is serving its purpose as a short tagline
#
aaronpk
i worry that the sentence i added is too long for right under the main header, and also isn't something people will quote

Has something recently changed re how chat shows date/time?
#
jamietanna
In the UK, although I've specified UTC times, I'm seeing 0813 as the time, instead of 2013, as I'd expect
#
aaronpk
nothing has changed recently, is it just the realtime messages that are wrong?
#
aaronpk
weird, i thought i had fixed that a while ago
#
aaronpk
oh wait, it's localizing the time, but not using 24 hour time?
#
aaronpk
yeah haha

haha oh no
#
jmac
poor wiki
#
jamietanna
Looks like it's working again now aaronpk - not sure if you did anything, but it's showing 24 hour clock again
#
jmac
So yeah, looks like I gotta practice a bit beforehand with mod controls and I'll be more fit to co-host
#
jamietanna
(I lie, it's not when I post a message, but it is when I refresh the page)
#
aaronpk
jamietanna: yeah the chat is server-rendered in the right timezone, the JS that streams the messages is using a 12-hour clock
#
jamietanna
Ah that's fair then
#
aaronpk
supposed to be HH instead of hh apparently
#
aaronpk
that should fix it

people do think that places like twitter and instagram _are_ people-centric sites

I think maybe avoiding the messaging about the corporate web would remove some confusion. I found it a clash of messaging, but it might be what people assume that means
#
[LewisCowles]
people bundle terms up with lots of meanings which are not in the dictionary
#
[LewisCowles]
to some extent, engaging with that or choosing not to affects us either way
[bonkerfield] joined the channel
#
[bonkerfield]
right, i also think the "corporate web" in the tagline feels a little odd. i could imagine someone reading it in the same voice that i read "deep state."
#
[bonkerfield]
messaging is super hard
#
[LewisCowles]
oh totally, I don't think anyone should feel bad
#
[LewisCowles]
got to put things out there and iterate
#
[bonkerfield]
LewisCowles++ definitely think this is a great place to start and yay for trial and error.

I feel like as sideways as that thread went, it wound up with some very positive takeaways
#
[bonkerfield]
yeah, they were pretty rude in the thread, but it does seem that reasonable people who are trying to get started hit the main pages and are unable to find the information that is right for them.
#
aaronpk
that's nothing new, and we all know that, what we need is for people to volunteer to actually help improve the wiki and docs
#
[bonkerfield]
understood, i'm not just complaining. i think the docs are pretty great when you get to them. i think it's just that first flow that's the sticking point. i'm not a good designer but i've been trying to sketch it out for most of today.
#
aaronpk
help is very much appreciated! i look forward to seeing what you've got!
