IndieWebCamp Düsseldorf
#
[tantek]
aaronpk I checked with Marc and the cafe next to the library (same building I think) is open at 9am so I suggested putting a "9am informal coffee & warmup at next door Cafe" on the schedule to give people and excuse to get there earlier and have informal conversations so we can actually start at 10
#
jeremycherfas
is wondering why his RSVP to DUS did not show up.

Both I subscribe to

[fluffy]
So I know we dislike Facebook but do we really need an entire channel dedicated to them? 😉
#
sknebel
not entirely sure which one you specifically mean, but yes, generally in favor of "dont focus to much on what you dont like" here
#
Loqi
[[tantek]] so do we have to change the name of this channel (at least in Slack 😛 )
#
[fluffy]
ah, figures I’m a few days late on that 😉

IWC DUS organizers (feeling like maybe I should just [aaronpk] but maybe other organizers are following along and can absorb some institutional memory) :
#
[tantek]
We should look at and include accessibility and covid policy statements like a11yclub has: https://accessibility-club.org/event/accessibility-club-meetup-10-12
#
Loqi
yea!
#
[tantek]
At a minimum on the IWC DUS wiki page (perhaps to “figure it out?) and then also on the actual events.indieweb page
#
[tantek]
Or perhaps we can also revisit / iterate on what (for IWCs) should go on 2021.indieweb vs events.indieweb vs tito vs indieweb wiki :)

[tantek] for examples, we included accessibility information for IWC Brighton - detailing venue access info and who to contact for other specific accessibility requirements before/during the event https://indieweb.org/2019/Brighton#Accessibility
#
[tantek]
Sounds like a good model to follow
#
[tantek]
The actual text from the a11yclub specific to the facility can be re-used since we’ll be at the same facility
#
[tantek]
What is an accessibility statement?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "accessibility statement" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "accessibility statement is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
Hmm I thought we had a page like that, capturing various examples and such
#
[tantek]
Both for personal sites and for events
#
capjamesg[d]
Interesting.
#
capjamesg[d]
That is definitely applicable to personal sites.
#
[tantek]
More specific than just /accessibility
#
capjamesg[d]
What is accessibility?
#
Loqi
Accessibility is the practice of designing so that people with disabilities can have equal access to information and functionality, applicable to both websites as well as physical environments https://indieweb.org/accessibility
#
capjamesg[d]
We don’t have a section on that page for statements either.
#
capjamesg[d]
I’d really love to see an IndieWeb example.
#
capjamesg[d]
I know the UK Government has a lot of them as examples haha.
#
capjamesg[d]
The NHS has a really comprehensive one: https://www.nhs.uk/accessibility-statement/
#
gRegor
I don't recall a separate page, but the start of documenting some: https://indieweb.org/accessibility#Physical_Environments
#
gRegor
/inclusivity_statement got its own page, don't remember one for accessibility statement. seems like a good idea though!
#
[tantek]
yeah it’s worth making a separate page for actual “statements” examples beyond good indieweb (site) accessibility practices
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, on a separate point, are you available to do an informal indieweb pre-meetup or dinner Sunday afternoon before the official btconf “warmup”?
#
gRegor
that section isn't about site accessibility
#
aaronpk
Maybe, I will know more Thursday
#
[tantek]
gRegor and yes, similar to /inclusivity_statement is a good idea
#

new suggestion for Loqi what is, if a what is has 1+ a-zA-Z chars and ends with an emoji or emoticon, don't prompt to create the page

is it just called Cafe??
#
aaronpk
we might need a little more info on there
#
capjamesg[d]
I agree [tantek].
#
GWG
[tantek]: We talked about accessibility at an organizer meeting
#
GWG
I think it was the Berlin one in 2019
#
GWG
I remember we looked at a few prior events
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, that was all the info I had 🙂 It's called Cafe until we have more information (and can perhaps hyperlink to it) but yes it's in the same library building on literally the same floor as the room for IWC
#
aaronpk
ha okay
#
[tantek]
this new library doesn't open until Saturday btw so that's the earliest I suppose we'll have info
#
[tantek]
so many new venues to create 😄
#
[tantek]
ok back on /accessibility_statement, can someone start https://indieweb.org/s/120B with a stub, maybe taking some of the content from https://indieweb.org/accessibility#Physical_Environments and adding https://indieweb.org/2019/Brighton#Accessibility as an IWC Example?
