↩️ There's some documentation at https://indieweb.org/Mastodon#POSSE for how folks are doing this. Ease of set up may depend on your platform and pre-existing code/plugins which may be available.

↩️ Well, the IndieWeb folks and the standards folks like more complex solutions (not saying they are bad) to a lot of the simple things that were working then and you lose some of the charm https://indieweb.org/Webmention

GWG
I don't say things on Twitter very often. The fact after I responded, the person deleted their tweet doesn't encourage me
#
[tantek]
Well it's archived here in chat also
#
[tantek]
Though where's your reply 🤔
#
GWG
[tantek]: It went into -dev
#
[tantek]
I see it. Well your reply looks like the authoritative & polite answer to questions from Phil and Jon so well done!
#
[tantek]
Doesn't matter if a couple of intermediate tweets show up as deleted
#
[tantek]
One strategy when there's an existing thread of multiple people like that is to look at the profiles of all the folks commenting so far.
#
[tantek]
See who posts the most positive cause negative things. Reply up the chain to the most positive person with your own kind & positive reply
#
[tantek]
most positive vs* negative things
#
[tantek]
GWG, another tip, when one person in a thread talks about the user-scenario / use-case, and another jumps into plumbing, reply to the former before replying to the latter
#
@judell
@windley It was born of necessity. Before blog comments appeared, the conversation had to be blog-to-blog. And it was ok to write just a sentence or two in response, more than a tweet but less than a fully-formed essay.

#
GWG
Makes me wonder if I need to work on my reader more...because I'm rarely on Twitter itself
#
@judell
@mterenzio @windley And it came together in weekend. We could still choose to use our blogs that way. I wonder what conditions would motivate that choice.

I have a feeling Jon would jump on various indieweb practices given the opportunity and a bit of introduction
#
capjamesg[d]
I don’t think that feature exists in Discord [tantek].
#
capjamesg[d]
Which is a shame because it would be useful.
#
capjamesg[d]
I am sometimes capjamesg without anything if I’m connecting via IRC
#
capjamesg[d]
I have been using chat.sr.ht and love it.
#
[tantek]
GWG, point being, don't be disheartened about replying to tweets because one person deleted theirs.
#
[tantek]
Take it as an informational signal that it may not be worth your time to reply to that person in particular in the future, and see if you can reply to others in such threads instead.
#
GWG
I'm not, so much as wondering if I should have bothered
#
[tantek]
Yes capjamesg[d], keyword highlighting is a very nice chat client feature
#
[tantek]
GWG, worth it for replying to folks like Jon Udell
#
[tantek]
That partially requires long term knowledge/ experience of who some of these folks are, which e.g. [KevinMarks] and I can help with
#
[tantek]
Like hey anyone know anyone in this thread before I reply to it?
#
[tantek]
What is a dfn?
#
Loqi
The HTML dfn tag is a way to denote the first time a term is defined https://indieweb.org/dfn
#
[tantek]
What is a definition
#
Loqi
wikifying is the practice of capturing information and ideas on the wiki https://indieweb.org/definition
#
[tantek]
Doesn't quite touch on what I said in dev: all pages should start with being the best source for basic knowledge on their subject
#
[tantek]
Perhaps there's enough on what makes a good definition there that I should break that into its own page
#
[tantek]
It would help shorten /wikifying and maybe help lessen aaronpk’s stressing about that page (and it's already in my /tinbox)
#
[tantek]
tinbox << as part of ^, create [[definition]] page for how to write a good definition, extract related content from [[wikifying#Definitions_include_indieweb_relevance]] onward, and: all pages should start with being the best source for basic knowledge on their subject
#
Loqi
ok, I added "as part of ^, create [[definition]] page for how to write a good definition, extract related content from [[wikifying#Definitions_include_indieweb_relevance]] onward, and: all pages should start with being the best source for basic knowledge on their subject" to the "See Also" section of /tinbox https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=78299&oldid=77803

What is relevant to the IndieWeb wiki?
#
Loqi
Anything directly related to people with their own websites, such as technologies and services used, design and UX, formats and protocols, as well as events or podcasts are relevant to the IndieWeb wiki https://indieweb.org/relevant_to_the_IndieWeb_wiki
#
[chrisaldrich]

@tchambers
This #Indieweb principles quoted verbatim by Bruce Sterling in 2013, hold up pretty well…and I think apply to a lot of #Fediverse and #Web3 efforts, too…. https://www.wired.com/2013/12/indieweb-principles/

tracydurnell[d]
Dunno how many people follow "this week in the IndieWeb" by RSS - FYI the feed populates with the first version of the newsletter rather than the final
#
tracydurnell[d]
Even though I'm all for sending the whole post generally, if you care about folks not seeing the first draft might want to change the feed to only send a stub so people click through to see the final?
#
[tantek]
Yeah this is the legacy RSS reader caching problem and is why syndicating to legacy XML feed files should be done only after a post is “finished” (I give it 10min after I've posted to my site)
#
[tantek]
For the indieweb newsletter, the code that generates shouldn't push to RSS until same time it's pushing to Twitter
#
aaronpk
oh funny, i never noticed that

Yeah. I see this every week.
#
capjamesg[d]
I usually like the edition that comes in my feed reader, knowing the final one will be done later in the day.
#
[tantek]
Sure, could do more work to change the GUID or whatever and see who supports that 😂 [KevinMarks] probably knows what attribute to tweak
