♻️ @pidu@indieweb.social: Cookie acceptance banners need to go, think about all the annoyance multiplied over all visitors in the last decade, time wasted building these furious pop-ups and the idiocy in the people mandating ... #cookies #regulation https://indieweb.social/@pidu/108480361848988843

↩️ Hosting really isn't an "issue". There's an assumption that you have to code in order to be part of the IndieWeb (or have a IndieWeb presence) - which isn't true. You need to have a URL that doesn't js;dr that you control. That _tends_ to be one's own… https://jacky.wtf/2022/6/uRxr

One thing that I wrangle with (but the IndieWeb does permit) is the idea that a _domain_ is an identity. Yes, domains are “cheap” now. I can also throw $5—$7 on lunch every day. That might not seem like a luxury outside our bubble, but things like that… https://jacky.wtf/2022/6/rLG5

↩️ Control is a weird word here because the immediate assumption is that it equates to having root access to the server where your stuff lives. It's quite literal, as mentioned in the sub-heading at https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started#Get_your_own_site. (https://jacky.wtf/2022/6/sZog)

↩️ i think the indieweb folks really figured this one out: publish things to your own website. use fancy automation to make it syndicate to other platforms, such as twitter updates, webtoons, whatever, and make them link back to your site.

↩️ I'll tweet gifs a lot but for blogging I do about once every 2 weeks. Varies wildly between devs! Those are all great outlets. Also recommend @itchio Here's my process rn: I post here: https://www.valadria.com/ Then it syndicates using this method: https://indieweb.org/POSSE

@spolsky If ShittyWeb includes the main silos, web3, etc. how do you refer to the alternative? Block Protocol and the wider ambition feels similar to the ideals of IndieWeb, but “Indie” isn’t necessarily the antithesis of Shitty, although perhaps a part of it.
