[tantek]: I had a knee-jerk reaction to seeing the banner image in <https://indieweb.org/POSSE>. I immediately assumed it was an ad and launched my ad-blocker's element picker before realizing it was just an image 🤣

Is that photo new [tantek]?
#
Seirdy_
Any time I see some sort of stock photo with text like that my brain just goes "Marketing alert! Corpospeak! Blockity-block-block!" and I had to stop myself and go like "wait, this is a wiki. The entire web hasn't been taken over yet, some folks are still alright".

Also, "the network" sounds ominous.

What are banner images?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "banner images" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "banner images is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
banner images are /banner_image

what are banner images
#
Loqi
🖼 A banner image is a wide image (AKA header image or hero image), typically in an aspect ratio of 2:1 to 4:1, displayed as a backdrop at the top of a profile page or post permalink https://indieweb.org/banner_images

Very nice!

I still find "the network" strange.
#
[tantek]
You could suggest different phrasing to [chrisaldrich] !
#
capjamesg
This is tough...
#
capjamesg
How about "Publish on your own site, syndicate elsewhere."
#
capjamesg
I know that's what POSSE means but that wording is well articulated and concise.
#
capjamesg
"the network" is too ambigious and sounds a bit idealist.
#
[tantek]
the point of such images is to evoke something larger and more abstract than the direct usage
#
[tantek]
"ambigious and sounds a bit idealist" is another way of putting that! the images are supposed to evoke aspirational feelings
