I'm looking for other organizers to help out with a potential IWC Berlin 9-10 September, because I'm not sure I can make it in-person (looking like I have to travel that weekend to W3C TPAC)
#
capjamesg
Is btconf that early in the month?

capjamesg, see: https://indieweb.org/Planning#Berlin for such info/details
#
capjamesg
Oh wow.
#
capjamesg
I may be able to make it!
#
capjamesg
I thought it was way later.

Re: rST, I don't like it.
#
[tantek]
yeah, same for its inline-markup. it's block-level markup may have some ideas worth re-using. Overall though I agree capjamesg. It feels like something made-up for a very narrow vertical purpose (documenting Python code)
#
capjamesg
I have used rST for documenting a few libraries. Every time I have issues.
#
capjamesg
A preference for heading underlines equal to the length of the heading (so when you change your heading, you shuold change your markup).
#
capjamesg
The weird linking syntax.
#
capjamesg
` <link>`_ or something like that.
#
capjamesg
Forgetting === vs. --- vs ~~~
#
capjamesg
That link thing is so annoying. Five characters -- three different glyphs! -- to add a link.
#
[tantek]
weirdlinkingsyntax--
#
Loqi
weirdlinkingsyntax has -1 karma over the last year
#
capjamesg
rST supports definition lists though.
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, what are your use-cases for definition lists? Have you ever needed them in posts? (I have one but then again I'm also the only person that implemented his own footnotes syntax auto-markup-and-linking AFAIK)
#
[tantek]
like LMK if you see someone (anyone) else using footnotes in notes posts e.g. on Mastodon
#
capjamesg
I don't have one; it was more of an observation.
#
capjamesg
I have used them for various misc. reasons on my site.
#
[tantek]
features without use-cases are bloat
#

Listing projects, contact information.
#
capjamesg
But I wrote them in HTML.
#
capjamesg
Not rST.
#
[tantek]
good call. HTML is more maintainable
#
Loqi
HTML has 1 karma in this channel over the last year (3 in all channels)
#
capjamesg
I choose the simplest tool for the job, in this order: plain text -> markdown -> HTML.
#
capjamesg
(meaning I default to plain text, then markdown, then HTML)
#
Loqi
HTML has 2 karma in this channel over the last year (4 in all channels)
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, when I'm done with auto-linking, you'll be able to skip that middle step
#
[tantek]
auto-linked plain text -> HTML

idea for next IWS — IndieWeb jargon bingo — for use during the introduction / keynotes
#
gRegor
what is bingo
#
Loqi
IndieWeb Bingo is a game played by IndieWebCamp attendees to see how many community members they can meet https://indieweb.org/bingo
