#[tantek]Let's get some thoughts here — how do others feel about organizing / upgrading IWC NUR into our IWS 2023?
#[tantek]Sounds reasonable/good? Or would rather wait to keep looking for a date/venue in Portland? (if you are able to contribute to that) Or would rather not have an IWS if we can't do it in Portland?
#[tantek]From what we have done in the past: Once a year. Larger capacity. An encouragement that if you can only make it to one IWC, make it to this one. An intro reflecting on the past year. A handful of lightning keynotes after the intro to provide examples & ideas to inspire folks. A half-day Organizers Summit before the Summit. More explicit pre-party and side-events before the main event.
#GWGYes, I'm just saying to take it on the road, we should have a page describing this on the wiki.
#GWGAnd would Nuremberg fit the bill in terms of larger attendance? Our restart events have been a bit smaller than we achieved in prior years.
#[tantek]It's very likely IWC NUR will have the most participants since restarted in-person events. Especially if we get ticketing setup in advance soon, and adjacent to the border:none ticketing.
#[tantek]We can also reach out to folks who have already bought their border:none tickets and encourage them to stay for IWS which will get a bunch more folks
#GWG[tantek]: Yes, and with this much lead time, helps with people who weren't going to go to border:none, for example myself.
#[tantek]part of it depends on an update of the description — timely copyediting mentioning all the IndieWeb / social web things that people are interested in today that are aligned with our principles
#[tantek]also helps people who were planning on going make travel plans to stay longer
#[tantek]I think you'd enjoy border:none as well tho
#GWG[tantek]: I might solicit a sales pitch on that, and what there is to do in Nuremberg sightseeing wise, and whether or not I should route to another city en route that I haven't been to.
#[tantek]GWG, look at the "pitches" that were made for the various "fediwhat" or "decentralizedsomething" etc. confs that happened earlier this year
#LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "decentsocial" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "decentsocial is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#[tantek]Zegnat WDYT of doing a half-day Organizers Summit on Wednesday the day before border:none?
#[jeremycherfas]Is Tollwerk big enough to host all that many people? I don’t think it is. As for things to see, the museum of the Nurnberg Trials should be unmissable.
cdravcte, KMF, gRegor and oizys joined the channel
#[tantek]We should have capacity numbers from the last time we did IWC NUR
#[tantek]And yes we should set ticket limits accordingly. I don't expect we'll get as many people as IWS 2019 tho
#ZegnatI think I read CoderDojo brought in on average 30 kids, and then + whoever was mentoring, and I am guessing parents? Between 30 and 40 people feels like something you could house at the Tollwerkstatt. But lets see when jkphl gets back with a ticketing set-up.
#Zegnat[tantek]: like I said, I will probably be in the area the whole week, so I can probably do a Wednesday meetup? Still looking exactly where I will be staying. I am ambivalent on the IWC vs IWS question. I am not sure we would get any more of the active EU participants to show up based on the name.
#Zegnat[GWG]: As [jeremycherfas] mentioned, the Documentation Center (https://museums.nuernberg.de/documentation-center/) is imposing. I went there together with sknebel last time I was in NUR. Though it looks like they are currently remodelling. For my bday I would probably be with friends (Isi who used to work at Tollwerk and has been to IWC including in Brighton) elsewhere in Franconia. The events are just an extra excuse to make the
#[tantek]Maybe we could do either or both as a Wednesday morning organizers team building exercise and then do Organizers Summit Wednesday afternoon so US folks can join remotely
