[Joe_Crawford] btw need to update that ooh.directory dfn to include its IndieWeb relevance, and preferably without needing to quote from their self-description.
#
[tantek]
what is ooh.directory
#
Loqi
ooh.directory is a "place to find good blogs that interest you." It is a blog directory that was was started in 2022 by Phil Gyford https://indieweb.org/ooh.directory
#
[tantek]
what is definition
#
Loqi
A definition on the IndieWeb wiki should be an accessible, basic, clear, plain English description of the term (or phrase) naming a wiki page, with an explicit connection to the term’s relevance to the IndieWeb, and ideally without any use of jargon https://indieweb.org/definition
#
[Joe_Crawford]
It may simply need to live on the [[directory]] page and not have its own page. but when I searched for ooh directory and ooh.directory I found one mention - from an IWC etherpad.
#
[Joe_Crawford]
even though it *was* on the directory page
#
[tantek]
It's fine for it to have its own page especially if it has IndieWeb Examples, that's a key thing to consider

[Paul_Robert_Ll] exciting to see IWC Brighton moving forward! 30 is a fine attendance limit. May want to do explicit ticketing in case it sells out.

[tantek] followed up on the ooh.directory by fleshing out its placement in /directory. left main page alone. Still don't have a terrific grasp of indieweb wiki tone when adding content but I'm learning!

aaronpk re: Loqi USB sticks in #chat: I'd like to figure out a way to put an offline browsable directory of a snapshot of the wiki and specs.indieweb on a USB stick
#
aaronpk
that would be neat
#
aaronpk
someone must have done that for mediawiki by now
#
aaronpk
spiderpig on the wiki might work too
#
sknebel
wikipedia has a format and readers for offline-wikipedia unsurprisingly. but yeah, for us a pile of HTML files would also be a good choice
#
sknebel
(ZIM format, Kiwix is a (the?) reader for it)
#
gRegor
what is ooh.directory
#
Loqi
ooh.directory is a blog directory that was was started in 2022 by Phil Gyford https://indieweb.org/ooh.directory
#
aaronpk
oh i remember this problem from before, trying to download a mediawiki with spiderpig means you end up with a million files created from all the wiki history pages and diff links
#
aaronpk
wait maybe not "Query strings are ignored completely"
#
sknebel
yeah, those should probably be excluded
#
aaronpk
it might not take much work to customize spiderpig a little bit for mediawiki specifically
#
aaronpk
just tried running it on the wiki and got "RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded"
#
aaronpk
the other option would be to write new JS-wiki frontend that reads the source files from https://github.com/indieweb/wiki

Zegnat
static site generator with the repo as source. Basically generate a wiki again out of those source files :D Could be fun!
#
aaronpk
or that
#
aaronpk
modifying spiderpig is definitely the easiest option, since all the work of handling the mediawiki templates is already done at that point
#
capjamesg
I like the static site generator idea.

could use the wiki api for the template-handling etc
#
sknebel
because that is not something you want to re-implement
#
aaronpk
oh i didn't know there was an API for that, that simplifies things greatly
#
sknebel
there's a few bits
#
sknebel
if I remember right you can use it preview-like (i.e. give it markup and it'll turn it into html for you)
#
sknebel
and there is also some new-ish alternative output format for pages thats supposed to make post-processing them easier

(from the visual editor work afaik)
#
sknebel
(because the visual editor for mediawiki had exactly that problem of handling page content with some understanding of the templates etc, but not wanting to 1:1 copy the hairy PHP ball that does it normally)
