There, now Pacific matches Europe
#
[tantek]
in what way? the summaries and descriptions are different
#
GWG
[tantek]: In booking for the rest of the month
#
GWG
So, people know when we'll be around

GWG has 11 karma in this channel over the last year (47 in all channels)
#
GWG
We're doing every other week, why not book it in advance. It has been a long while since that unfortunate...I was the only one who showed week
#
[tantek]
capjamesg, WDYT of the way HWC Pacific descriptions put the "Discussion and Notes" near the top with clear and big links for the chat and notes etherpad? I think that may help especially new folks find the chat and notes from the events, since it's easy to miss the small "Notes" link at the bottom
#
aaronpk
heh i'm not sure about this trend of adding city tags to virtual events anymore
#
GWG
aaronpk: I think I might agree, being as we restarted in person. Maybe it is time to bring back the VHWC designation again
#
GWG
Or a new prefix
#
GWG
Wonder if Meetable should have something to distinguish online, in person, and hybrid(online+in person events)
#
GWG
Something visual in the list
#
aaronpk
are there examples of other platforms doing that?
#
GWG
aaronpk: Not sure. But you do have in the form...where will this event take place? What about a box that indicates...this event is online only that would replace the location in the menu with some indicator?
#
GWG
Even just the word, Online
#
[tantek]
indeed aaronpk maybe we can start dropping that this year
#
aaronpk
you can just type "Online" as the location
#
[tantek]
dropping the city tags from virtual events

ok *now* i'm done
#
aaronpk
all 2024 events
#
aaronpk
hmm, now i'm thinking the "discover" page should somehow prioritize future events https://events.indieweb.org/tags
#
GWG
aaronpk: How do you imagine that page being used?
#
GWG
If we could have something for recurring events like weekly HWCs, we could show photos from previous events to encourage future attendance

#

Photos from past events and tags for future events
#
GWG
aaronpk: I wonder how many people go to the page
#
[tantek]
I like the idea of including photos too!
#
[tantek]
how long until aaronpk ends up rebuilding an open source http://Upcoming.org 😂
#
[tantek]
now if only Meetable instances could opt-in to federating with other Meetable instances… 🤔
#
[tantek]
might need a new protocol tho tbh
#
[tantek]
you could call it … ActivityCal
#
[tantek]
then of course we'd have to petition Bridgy to peer Meetable with various calendar silos, like Google Calendar
#
GWG
[tantek]: Why isn't that just iterating on h-event and webmentions?
#
[tantek]
that's the spirit GWG
#
GWG
[tantek]: I tried
#
[tantek]
yes, probably iterating on h-event and Webmention and maybe some protocols specific to shared calendaring which is currently undefined
#
GWG
I'm going to move to -dev then for that
#
aaronpk
Ok so I have actually kind of unintentionally started that kind of thing
#
aaronpk
since I have a few Meetable instances for different communities that have some overlap, I've wanted to be able to copy events across instances
#
aaronpk
right now it works by having a proprietary json API that has an event-specific key that ends up as a URL that other instances can import from. I'd definitely be up for finding a way to do that in a more standardized way
#
GWG
aaronpk: Well, importing the event could be a nice microformatted page, but it is still...what triggers the import?
#
GWG
There's an opportunity. Calendar events are not the only thing we might want to sync between two instances.
#
GWG
Think Venues. Pages about Media...etc
#
aaronpk
Not exactly, because there are a lot of properties that don't exist in h-event that need to be synced, also the details of locations and time are not well defined in the current vocabulary
#
GWG
aaronpk: I think we can fix that. I want to fix that
#
aaronpk
what triggers the import now is manual import. But i could easily imagine an auto import from a tag feed
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, import is bandaid. the real thing is being able to use a meetable event from one instance directly in another instance
#
[tantek]
so that there's one canonical event, not a copy created from an import that then requires keeping in sync with the original
#
GWG
[tantek]: What do you mean by 'use'?
#
aaronpk
Sure but that doesn't change any of my points
#
[tantek]
GWG, all the things you do with an event. RSVP, edit, comment, etc.
#
aaronpk
Whether you consider one canonical doesn't change that there is at some point an import step
#
aaronpk
For example, another way to think of webmention is that one site imports the response from the other site
#
aaronpk
so "an import that requires keeping in sync" is already expected in webmention responses
#
[tantek]
not really, the semantics are different. fork vs cache
#
[tantek]
with webmentions, you can throw away all the results and regenerate them because there is a clear original
#
[tantek]
with importing, in any reasonable/common use of the term, when you setup the new thing from an import, it has no connection to the old thing. it's a fork.

GWG
I wonder if, in this context, you'd want a copy of an event on your site for anything you attended.
#
[tantek]
yes, just as you would want a cache of an event in the reply-context of any RSVP you posted
#
GWG
[tantek]: I was thinking a full page. I have venue pages, for example, that I'd love to be able to share data with other people's venue pages for the same place
#
[tantek]
interesting. yes, in the form of an indie archive. we have that building block as well
#
[tantek]
what is an indie archive
#
Loqi
IndieArchive is a project to collaboratively grow an archival copy of pages replied to (possibly also mentioned) in indie web posts https://indieweb.org/indie-archive

What is the indieweb?
#
Loqi
The IndieWeb is a community of independent & personal websites connected by simple standards, based on the principles of: owning your domain & using it as your primary identity, publishing on your own site (optionally syndicating elsewhere), and owning your data https://indieweb.org/indieweb
#
[tantek]
Capjamesg[d] shall we collect our blog posts there and organize them into an "Articles" section and perhaps use areas of agreement to update that page?
#
capjamesg[d]
I shall be going to bed now though. I have been up since 6:30am.
