[Joe_Crawford] [Al_Abut] gRegor, I know we're months away, however I figured I might as well put up a few potential December weekend dates to see if anyone has any vibes about any of them, take a look and please add your current thoughts/feels: https://indieweb.org/Planning#San_Diego (and anyone else that went to IWC SD last year, GWG, etc.)

Zegnat: [tantek] left you a message 6 days, 18 hours ago: are you still looking for potential venues for IWC Dusseldorf? https://indieweb.org/Planning#Dusseldorf We could really use some help with a Sunday venue for the hack day and demos!
#
Zegnat
Sorry, I have been away from chats. And it turns out name mentions were not actually turning into notifications either! :o h/t sknebel who might have helped me fix that now.
#
Zegnat
I do not remember when I was last talking about DUS. And cannot find it in the wiki history either right now. I know I had put some feelers out, including through some family members, but did not turn up anything yet :(
#
Zegnat
I did find a contact at ITERGO, but that would have required pitching it as an event that they would be interested in. If memory serves right, I spoke with jkphl about that option too. I believe he knows someone at ITERGO as well. Neither of us had the bandwidth at the time to actually pitch anything IIRC.
#
Zegnat
!tell tantek tldr of above: my old contacts in Düsseldorf have not turned up any suitable locations. I should probably remove my name from the wiki now, as I am not actively searching at the moment.

Do you think you might be able to make it to IWC DUS?
#
Zegnat
No, my May is completely booked :( Both with people coming to Gothenburg that I am meeting, and me travelling for work (in the wrong direction)

I am going to add Berlin to my calendar though, because I really should be able to _at least_ make it to 1 EU IWC yearly!

Interesting dive here, was trying to figure out the history of the vidigosocial on site-deaths. From IA it looks like it was a forum that died in 2020, came back briefly 2020-10. Not sure any indieweb relevance. Was apparently added via a tumblr.com subdomain here: https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?title=site-deaths&diff=prev&oldid=30051
#
gRegor
Safe to remove?

#
gRegor
what is wiki customization
#
Loqi
MediaWiki customizations are changes to the default install of MediaWiki that the IndieWeb community has made for various reasons to better serve how the community uses the wiki https://indieweb.org/wiki_customization
#
[tantek]
what are lost domains
#
Loqi
lost sites are former sites (including IndieWeb sites) on domains that the owner abandoned or lost control over (AKA domain deaths), are unresponsive or often taken over by other parties, sometimes turned into zombies; links to such domains should be replaced with Internet Archive versions https://indieweb.org/lost_domains
#
[tantek]
gRegor, since the wiki used to link to that domain (presumably), and it turned zombie (did it really or "just" a spam / obv other abuse?), could you add it accordingly to /lost_domains
#
gRegor
I don't think they were ever indieweb relevant, though. Both were added by that user, their only contribution.
#
[tantek]
btw the bar for putting/keeping things on /site-deaths isn't direct IndieWeb relevance, rather, it's more "did any users lose any content?". the point of of site-deaths is to illustrate, annually, how many random "free" content hosting sites die, to make it very clear that a "bunch of money" doesn't mean anything in terms of longevity. it's a critique meant to contrast IndieWeb efforts
#
[tantek]
yeah if no one can verify that any user content was lost, ok to drop them
#
gRegor
True. They were forums and looked like old forum software (design wise at least), so I'm sure their posts were lost.
#
[tantek]
another decent (though not required) filter is, is there any even *mention* of these silos on Wikipedia (nevermind their own pages). I checked and none / neither
#
[tantek]
like we don't need to track every hobby silo project
#
[tantek]
if someone shows up and claims to be a user of it, that's a good enough bar for me tho
#
[tantek]
then we can ask them about rough number of posts / users etc and at least have an anecdotal estimate
#
aaronpk
weird, i thought we did already
#
[tantek]
I mean yes we should
#
[tantek]
Heads-up in case you suddenly see new people, or "established folks" that you've never met in person start to ask to help maintain any OSS projects (including #indieweb or #microformats repos), especially to help "update" them for "security" fixes: https://openjsf.org/blog/openssf-openjs-alert-social-engineering-takeovers
