FYI slack just sent a notice that they are going to now completely delete messages older than a year on free plans, rather than just make them invisible
#
aaronpk
i don't think that changes anything for us

I really appreciate the way this is handled for IndieWeb. I said as much at the tail end of https://artlung.com/blog/2024/06/25/slack-costs-money-of-course/ this morning, contemplating the change.

May be me but I can't log in to the wiki (using WordPress + IndieAuth). Somehow the client discovery logic is seeing JSON rather than the HTML it expects? Not sure if an issue with the plugin or Indielogin.com or ...?

what is .bit
#

bit is an experiment to have a non-centralized TLD where domains can be bought with namecoin (cryptocurrency) instead of via registrars. At least one community member has been locked out of their .bit domain due to issues with the transaction process. [1] https://indieweb.org/.bit

Commented on an earlier (but unrelated, I now understand) issue: https://github.com/indieweb/wordpress-indieauth/issues/256#issuecomment-2189878274. May belong in the WordPress channel, but it looks like it might be indielogin.com acting up? Unless it's just me, haha (even though other clients work fine).

Oh I'm surprised the error handling in the Wordpress plugin is that poor. I changed IndieLogin.com to return JSON there because I assumed the server would fall back to just showing the URL if the metadata discovery failed
#
janboddez
Ha, I just figured it out. Guess it's on the to-do list: https://github.com/indieweb/wordpress-indieauth/issues/267

Good to know though. Looks like I myself have to update https://github.com/janboddez/laravel-indieauth/blob/main/src/ClientDiscovery.php then, haha. (Even if I haven't used it in ages.)
#
aaronpk
Yeah. But it should also handle failures better
#

Guess all of the WordPress people's tokens never expire. I have to admit, I haven't logged in in a million years.
#
aaronpk
Well it's not Wordpress that sets the lifetime of being logged in to the wiki

IRC just came on

Just make sure it handles errors gracefully!
#
GWG
aaronpk: I'll add more error code, but now it looks for JSON
#
aaronpk
What happens if it doesn't find json? What happens if it doesn't find the properties it expects?
#
GWG
aaronpk: If it doesn't find JSON it looks for HTML.. but I should have it check for either
#
GWG
neither
