[snarfed]obviously we'd hate for people to edit messages and think we see the edits when we don't. but re-sending the message on each edit isn't great either
doesnm<[mattl]> Discord has no interest in adding a permission to restrict editing. People have asked for years and every time they do they get shut down. <- very bad idea. Same as restrict deleting messagsa
doesnm[mattl]: IRC doesn't support editing, idk about webchat. I mean bridge slack&discord and bridge irc to one of them. So it can look like slack<->discord<->irc
[mattl]If we started saying something or having Loqi do it, for a week or two I wonder if it would improve things. We can’t catch it every time but Loqi presumably can.
aaronpkthe other annoying thing is discord sends edits out when they add the link preview to a message. that one might be able to be stopped in the discord bridge tho.
[mattl]I think Loqi greeting people when they join and asking them not to edit posts when they do would be two features that would dramatically improve things.
[mattl]That would be good but I’m also talking about a general greeting. If you enter the chat in the middle of the night in the US there’s often nobody here
aaronpkbut that could also be fun. Loqi is already aware of general level of chat activity, so Loqi could respond if someone says something after 2+ hours of no chatter

tantek.comedited /Organizers () "(-565) add Recent Organizers section for past 12 months and active in chat (or not), move proposals after "Recent" sections, merge Recent Organizer Meetings" (view diff)
[tantek]hey all, if you organized or hosted an IndieWeb event in the past 12 months, check to make sure you're listed here: https://indieweb.org/Organizers#Recent_Organizers (and in the right list, like active on chat or not) and with the accurate list of events you helped organize over the past 12 months.
[tantek]If you helped organize an event, the event description should explicitly list you by name as an organizer or host. None of this "the usual crowd/suspects" anonymous stuff.
[tantek]part of the goal here is to have clear names of organizers both in each event and in that Recent list for general handling of online chat / code of conduct type stuff, and even when it seems good faith disagreement is somehow escalating instead of de-escalating
[tantek](also if you're not available for de-escalation of conflicts in chat, ok to move yourself to the Additional recent organizers clustering so folks (hopefully) don't attempt to reach out to you for conflict resolution)
LoqiJust generated this week's newsletter! You still have a few minutes to make changes, and I'll re-generate it 10 minutes before it gets sent out at 3pm Pacific time. https://indieweb.org/this-week/2025-08-08.html

Loqipage is short for a web page on the IndieWeb, and is usually primarily known by its name (AKA named page), served at the top level of a site (AKA slash page), and kept updated in place in contrast to posts which are primarily datetime-based; a page that is browser-editable with viewable revisions is a wiki-page https://indieweb.org/page
