quick notes from chat with tantek on zoom: TODO: review best practices/guidance on session notes and archiving them (https://indieweb.org/IndieWebCamp_Organizing#Discussion_Sessions). Especially what to do for old sessions we don't have notes for (grab transcripts for YouTube videos?). Possibly a separate template similar to the relevance needed template (https://indieweb.org/to-do#Update_definitions_with_IndieWeb_relevanc
#
gRegor
Also ensure that the videos are on archive.org if they're not already, link+embed on the session page
#
gRegor
Youtube has a "Show Transcript" button under the description, which pops it up beside the video. Has options to toggle timestamps on or off. No download option, but can highlight it all to copy/paste. Timestamps appear on their own line with the text on the next line, so some cleanup would be needed, but could drop that into pages without notes.

what is 2014/Cambridge
#
[social]
I think Readwise and some other services have clean-up scripts for YouTube Transcripts. I was using that method about 18 months ago for a series I was capturing and annotating for my own purposes. I think I have notes.

Vouch extension to webmention was a session at IndieWebCamp Cambridge 2014 https://indieweb.org/2014/Cambridge/vouch

Copy/paste of transcript on there. I chose without timestamps.

I flagged the YouTube video in Readwise and it grabbed the transcript and put it in paragraph form. If that would help I could add it.
#
[social]
Readwise doesn’t clean up the transcription (which may be a good thing).
#
[social]
I picked up the method from Nicole van der Hoeven’s video on “Taking notes from YouTube videos in Obsidian” - https://youtu.be/qjWq4ck2-0o?si=syml1PeWSpF9yari
#
gRegor
Sure, go for it!
#
[social]
Done. I kept it wrapped with `pre` . I fixed a small handful of run on words, but it should be just a structured version.
#
gRegor
Looks great, thank you!
#
gRegor
what is readwise
#
Loqi
Readwise is a paid web app/service that allows users to sync highlights from various web and digital sources and review them (using spaced repetition) via an app or daily email https://indieweb.org/Readwise
#
gRegor
Nice. I've seen some of Nicole's Obsidian videos. Might have been what got me to finally try it out
#
[social]
I really like Nicole’s videos. I always pick something up from them.

what is forum
#
Loqi
A forum is a site to host online discussions, which some IndieWeb communities have hosted https://indieweb.org/forum
#
gRegor
[tantek], I don't know if you saw, but did a pass as https://indieweb.org/2014/Cambridge/vouch, embedded the video, added transcript and nowiki'd the etherpad link. [social] helped format the transcript using Readwise. Copy/pasting the raw transcript from youtube wasn't too bad, though the paragraph formatting is definitely better.
#
gRegor
video was already on the schedule grid, so won't be too hard to go through that and add them to the individual session pages
#
[tantek]
I did! That transcript is wild
#
[tantek]
I need to watch the video for the 11-year-old cringe flashback moments 😆
#
[tantek]
The transcript is like a teaser of the cringe
#
[social]
Readwise, when using the browser extension and activating it on YouTube pages takes the transcript and automatically puts it in paragraph format. It doesn’t touch the content or output of the transcript.
#
gRegor
Nice. Is that a paid feature or part of their free tier? I'm not very familiar
#
[social]
I think it is part of the paid tier, which isn’t inexpensive.
#
[tantek]
also lots of misrtranscriptions need human review and fixing. e.g. "webmention plus valves" [sic] [lol]
#
gRegor
Heh, yeah I wondered if it we should encourage people to watch the video and take notes instead of the transcript section?
#
[tantek]
Or encourage people to watch the video and help repair the transcript?
#
[social]
I wonder if an auto transcription today, compared to when YouTube originally auto-transcribed it would improve things.
#
[tantek]
Do YouTube auto transcriptions have a creation date associated with them?
#
[social]
The human in the loop helps.
#
[social]
I fixed a handful of run on words before I copied the paragraph version.

[KevinMarks] have you been to any other "original" Foo Camps besides 2009 and 2010? I feel there was at least one where we overlapped but I don't remember which. Also maybe that you were invited to the original in 2003? Do you remember?
