[tantek]“Don’t be a ‘hi’ guy” (in a company Slack). Love the opening of the first talk on day 2 of btconf. Advice also strongly applies to chat IMO. I want to add this to /discuss
[tantek]Hmm, do we need/want all the sub events of IWC BER showing up in the newsletter, or rather on their own? I suggest we either drop sub events from the newsletter or list them all nested under their main event
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "no hello" yet. Would you like to create it?_ (Or just say "no hello is ____", a sentence describing the term)

[Al_Abut]Interesting. I dunno, maybe I’m missing context myself from the talk but that sounds super transactional, no? Like those memes about every meeting needing a detailed agenda. That works for meetings that could’ve been emails, but what’s the text equivalent of just hanging out and saying “good morning” then?
aaronpkAs someone who just got a "hi" in work slack from someone on our expense team eventually asking for a clarification on an expense report I can confirm the passive aggressiveness of "hi" 😅
LoqiNo Hello is a philosophy and website encouraging people to “Just ask the question” instead of saying "hi", "yo", "hello", "anyone there?", "you there?" in chat or direct messages (texts or DMs), with several IndieWeb community members encouraging this practice of getting to the point in their own communication protocols https://indieweb.org/no_hello
Loqiweb browser is software you can use to view and interact with web pages, like Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Microsoft Edge, which members of the IndieWeb community have particular opinions about https://indieweb.org/browser
Loqiself hosting is the practice of running the software for your personal website on hardware under your own physical control, typically on a home server, or sometimes refers to only the aspect of running web applications on a (possibly virtual or shared) server under your control but not necessarily in your home https://indieweb.org/self_hosting
LoqiJust generated this week's newsletter! You still have a few minutes to make changes, and I'll re-generate it 10 minutes before it gets sent out at 3pm Pacific time. https://indieweb.org/this-week/2025-11-07.html
