I'm wondering where people are getting the HTML template/directions on setting up these wiki user pages. They don't work well with some of MediaWiki's formatting with indentations
#
[tantek]
indeed those are a bit odd

ok, for funsies I expanded our infobox person template to include city, state, country for folks who want to put that on their User: page
#
[tantek]
your city will auto-add you to a Category where you can see other people in your same city (once they've added it to their infobox)

not to be confused with /train, which would be adding locomotive data
#
[tantek]
gRegor, [artlung] if you think separate category for "person in city" (rather than just merging it with the city category as I did) would be helpful, can easily modify the template accordingly
#
[tantek]
like I could see lots of people showing up from a one city overwhelming the category for that city.

^ there's also some stuff about DIDs in there, which doesn't really seem related to personal-domains, but I'm not sure where it would fit better
#
[tantek]
I think the intent was to capture the criticism of DIDs because DID proponents think they are a better solution for personal identity online
#
[tantek]
what is identity?
#
Loqi
A personal domain is a domain name (or web address) that you personally own, control, and use to represent yourself on the internet https://indieweb.org/identity
#
[tantek]
^ that's why the DID stuff is there, /identity redirects to personal-domain because that's pretty foundational to "indieweb"
#
[artlung]
ATProto creates a DID but then allows users to directly associate it with a personal domain, and makes the domain first class identity in Blueskyland. A good step in the right direction in terms of "verification." Probably a mistake that in the wiki DID seems to redirect to "blockchain" now. It's not wrong, but it's incomplete and thus misleading.
#
[tantek]
that redirect predates AT Proto use of DIDs. I'll move it

Im kind of having a slow morning this morning, is it possible to rephrase what you mean by chicken-littling exaggatory criticism? I can imagine that things arent as bad as some people have said about discords changes, but yet I somehow absolutely dont trust them very much and its still a sign of worsening to me 😐
#
[morgan]
Im reading that post now and I can read what it says but like... somehow Im thinking of giving up Discord in the next month or two nonetheless. I dont know just like... I wont give it up for a wrong reason, but I feel there are still reasons
