The indieweb is a human centered alternative to the corporate web etc. but also I find myself using my website as a vehicle to find work and present myself professionally. I could rave about this because its a relatively cheap way to have a big impact and help oneself. I got some good advice recently about evaluating search results and stuff from a number of you.
#
[morgan]
Having said all that, I know that this topic is kind of allergic for many people, as its too corporate, and many are avoiding caring about this stuff. Is there a best place to chat about this? Or even a temperature gauge if there was non zero interest
#
[morgan]
My problem right now is that the generative summaries and search results are almost too quickly being affected by updates to my site
#
[tantek]
Yes, best place is to blog about it on your personal site since you feel you could "rave about" it
#
[tantek]
Then see if people in #indieweb-stream engage with your post
#
[morgan]
Ok, in my dream situation there would be a small crew of people who care I could bounce ideas off, but maybe best to just put it on my site . Im going to be experimenting with some custom robots.txt rules and see what works at all
#
[morgan]
Thanks! Ill just put it on my site

Ill just add that the problem is right now that anything I add to my website gets added really quickly to search results and generative summaries. Like within hours or a day? It seems like a dark arts rabbit hole but Im gonna try and set up specific posts to not get crawled, so that posts about optimizing my search results dont end up in the summaries immediately 🫠 .

I don't fully understand the decision-making process for keep/delete.
#
[tantek]
[jeremycherfas] neither do I. the page on it is quite long. looks like there's usually a 7-day "voting" period. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion

I read that too, before making my contribution, and came away thinking that the responsibility for decision on consensus is muddy. In this case, I’m glad they decided to keep, noting also the comment about it being “poorly written”. Need to think about that, as I have experienced pushback on edits I have made based on my closeness to the topic.
#
[tantek]
[jeremycherfas] I suspect different Wikipedia editors bring different opinions to perspectives of closeness to topics or whether to pushback or not. As an example, despite being close to the topic, I have purely factually added to the :Talk page, to enable other editors to more easily improve the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:IndieWeb#Sources_that_may_be_used_to_improve_the_article

"Poorly written," you say? Is there a way I could help with that?

cpgaertner++ love your /bibs page! I've been keeping mine in a small box for years. Hmm maybe this would make a good nav to race reports too

tantek: thanks. Had the same box of bibs, but decided to cleanup some stuff I have been keeping around and rarely look at, so photographing it was. Eventually it will link to more info (reports, strava activities, etc), but haven’t decided on a good content organization/structure for that.
