aaronpk JonathanNeal: great question! I was wondering that myself. so far I've only been able to find the schema.org markup that google uses when indexing music sites

tantek JonathanNeal - it's one of the few (only?) cases where a microformat was developed mostly per the process, and yet not adopted beyond the editor (and maybe wikipedia), and ignored by Google.

tantek all other well-established/developed microformats got adopted by Google, other search engines

tantek hAudio was ignored.

tantek lots of problems with how it was designed, developed, and pushed through mostly by a single individual (who wrote many many very long emails and lost everyone else).

JonathanNeal media metadata needs to have two things, description of the work and description of the stream.

JonathanNeal With an image, you can use width and height to describe the stream, but alt to describe the work. And you get to control if you want to misrepresent that data.

JonathanNeal With media, the stream data is the bit rate (192kbps), the length (3:15) the channels (2 for Stereo, 6 for Surround), etc. and the work data is title (Mighty Microformats), artist (Tantek Çelik), album (Jon's Friends Sing About Tech), and compilation (true).

JonathanNeal So maybe h-media and h-stream, and h-media can contain h-media and h-stream.

JonathanNeal h-media can describe an artist, an album, a song, etc. (album > track, track, track > chapter, chapter, band > [album > track track] [album > track], etc.)

JonathanNeal This way you could describe an entire album or collection (media), whether it's represented by one file (stream) or many file (streams). I think that would work best.

JonathanNeal And to be even more agnostic, lyrics get a generic name as to allow them to be used for subtitles.
