Has hCard been updated to support <picture> yet?
#
mko
Or, perhaps more appropriately, is the image in the fallback <img> `src` attribute always going to take precedent over potentially more relevant and appropriate image files found in <picture> <source> `srcset` attributes when parsing for hCard? (cc: tantek)
#
mko
I ask because http://microformats.org/wiki/microformats-2-implied-properties#image_and_name_photo_properties makes no mention of the <picture> element and only refers to <img src> as the default for finding an implied image in an hCard.

Loqi tell tantek "See 17:50:40 in #microformats IRC logs"

Loqi
dude
#
KartikPrabhu
mko: it seems the policy is to wait for enough use cases in the wild before updating the spec
#
KartikPrabhu
also, "potentially more relevant and appropriate image files found in <picture> <source> `srcset` attributes" is ambiguous as a microformats parser does not actually have a "viewport size" or "pixel ratio" which is what those things target

oh hey mko

tantek
KartikPrabhu's instincts are correct
#
tantek
!tell mko the next question is, do you know of any real world examples of people using the <picture> element as part of contact information (or information about a person) ? or inside an h-card? If so please add here: http://microformats.org/wiki/h-card#Examples_in_the_wild
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next
#
KartikPrabhu
i wondered about this one myself when <picture> became "official" but there no widespread use yet afaik
#
tantek
KartikPrabhu: exactly, your line of thinking was precisely correct.
#
tantek
in terms of "which" <picture> or <source> or src-set or <img> would be picked up, for explicit markup, only the element(s) which have the properties on them.
#
KartikPrabhu
the trouble is that if there is a src-set then it is hard to pick one source
#
tantek
we'd likely pick them all
#
tantek
anyway, this is the kind of theoretical discussion that's not much help until someone produces a concrete real world example
#
tantek
and then we'll figure it out based on real world publishing practices
#
KartikPrabhu
I essentially do that on my site but through javascript and not picture element. The mf parsers pick up the fallback image inside <noscript>
#
tantek
!tell mko also, you can add an issue to http://microformats.org/wiki/microformats2-parsing-issues about "How should parsers handle the <picture> element?" to capture the issue, especially if you're unable to find any real world publishing examples of <picture> with contact info.

KevinMarks: it seems that html5lib ignores things inside <noscript> is that correct behaviour?
