loqi doesn't search for instances of "microformats" in tweets?
#
@jackschofield
@kevinmarks @davewiner Microformats work fine in plain text, don't they? Name: John Doe etc for a .vcf file. What am I missing?

#
tantek
kylewm: it used to until it was too noisy
#
tantek
and we turned off just "microformats"
#
tantek
there were too many misuses of it

isn't h-recipe too much specific?
#
tantek
fiatjaf - could you rephrase your question as a positive?
#
fiatjaf
I don't know what you mean
#
tantek
Exactly, I don't know what you mean.
#
fiatjaf
really? you can't even imagine what I meant? or you just think my question was stupid?
#
tantek
questions of the form "isn't X bad?" make no sense
#
tantek
so instead
#
tantek
ask what you *want*
#
fiatjaf
sorry, you are right.
#
fiatjaf
I wanna know if it is one of the goals of microformats to have specific vocabularies for each kind of data that may exist in the internet (from blog posts to recipes), or if the goal is to have some general and more abstract vocabularies that could be reused in different contexts (like h-entry).
#
tantek
neither is a direct goal
#
tantek
in as much as principles are goals, captured here: http://microformats.org/wiki/principles
#
tantek
note also that goals like "specific vocabularies for each kind of data that may exist in the internet " is what has been referred to as boiling the ocean
#
tantek
"may exist" is so broad as to not be reasonably actionable
#
fiatjaf
yes, exactly
#
tantek
"abstract" is also not a goal, whereas *reuse* is
#
tantek
there's a big difference
#
tantek
see also architecture astronauts
#
fiatjaf
but h-recipe is so specific that it made me think that reusability was not a goal, but that the standard would perhaps create new specific vocabularies for any kind of data that becomed popular as internet topics, like recipes and blog posts, but not "kinds of ants".

microformats are very real world examples research driven
#
tantek
it makes sense to focus on solving problems that show real world evidence of a need to be solved, rather than "any kind of data"
