MarkusDBX Is hcard widely supported today? I'm working on a site, currently deciding between hcard and vcard.

Zegnat MarkusDBX, hcard and vcard are completely different things, so I am not sure why one would exclude the other. hcards can be converted to vcards if you want devices to download it. hcard is used for things like extracting author information from a blog post.

Zegnat Yes. The hcard properties are based on those from vcard.

Zegnat But many contact managers and phones expect an actual vcard file and do not include entire HTML parsers.

Zegnat So for now both have a different usecase.

Zegnat There is http://h2vx.com/ that can convert an hcard to vcard. So if you have a webpage with an hcard you can easily offer vcard downloads.

MarkusDBX Zegnat: nice, my current situation is I'm using a cms where there is no good vcard modules yet. (Drupal 8) There is modules in Drupal 7, but they are not rewritten for the new version yet.

MarkusDBX Makes good sense in developing hcard instead since vcard is kind of akward for most web development scenarios.

Zegnat There are probably a number of convertors, h2vx is one of the older ones that I just happen to know about.

Zegnat I would of course recommend to develop with hcard mark-up, but that's also why I am in this channel ;)
