schmarty - the point about the various generic *-examples pages is to gather content publishing examples - in order to analyze *what* aspects of the content they are publishing, as background research

tantek: thanks! my misunderstanding.

The microformats process
#
tantek
so the question is - were the additions on topic or not?
#
tantek
and do they look "spammy" or not?
#
tantek
both judgment calls - but not an automatic - hey some top level domains were added - therefore must be spam
#
tantek
kevinmarks - did you analyze those pages and actually determine they were spam? or just assuming such from schmarty's comment about lack of microforamts?
#
tantek
schmarty: can you take another look with that in mind?
#
tantek
also we usually have a more contextually explanatory header at the top of the generic *-examples pages, e.g. like the intro paragraphs at the top of http://microformats.org/wiki/recipe-examples

#
schmarty
by that metric, these are probably okay. they do, in fact, show plants for sale.
#
tantek
probably worth adding a similar couple of paras like that to the top of http://microformats.org/wiki/plant-examples
#
Loqi
plant-examples
#
schmarty
the third link is missing a":" in "https://"
#
tantek
also ok to require links to actual plants rather than just aggregations and such
#
tantek
anyway, a bit of minor gardening (so to speak ;) ) if you're up for it
#
[kevinmarks]
ah, sorry - I just followed schmarty's lead

schmarty: why is it frustating?
#
[kevinmarks]
frustrating as it ignores microformats?
#
aaronpk
i mean the whole post is about schema.org for SEO, so meh
#
KartikPrabhu
right, that was my reaction ^
#
aaronpk
i guess it's a little weird/incorrect to refer to it in plural "Schemas"
#
[kevinmarks]
Schemings
#
KartikPrabhu
english is weirder than any schema language so <shrug>
#
KartikPrabhu
does = present continuous form of do OR plural form for a femal deer
#
KartikPrabhu
well not "continuous"
#
aaronpk
huh never noticed that. they've always seemed like totally different words to me.
#
aaronpk
i tend to not group words based on similar spelling
#
KartikPrabhu
i noticed it because a cafe said "does eat oats"
#
KartikPrabhu
after "mares eat oats"
#
Loqi
"Mairzy Doats"

well now that's stuck in my head
#
KartikPrabhu
aaronpk: read a blog post on Schema and it'll go away ;)
#
KartikPrabhu
it will be replaced by "itemscope; itemprop"

schmarty: one interesting thing about that post (if we try to look for anything remotely useful) is that they chose to use/show the microsyntax for opening hours
#
tantek
which is an unsolved problem as far as actual "open formats" go
#
tantek
or rather, unsolved in any kind of usable / memorable way (iCal RFC 2445 / 5445 etc. has a really cryptic syntax)
#
tantek
specifically: openingHours: "Mo,Tu,We,Th 09:00-12:00"
#
tantek
as an example in the post
#
aaronpk
foursquare seems to be doing a pretty good job of indicating open hours, i bet there's some good things to learn from there
#
tantek
aaronpk - depends on where they get the info
#
tantek
since Foursquare merges info sources, some from users, some from bizdev deals, others from random internet sources
#
aaronpk
oh i meant the presentation of it
#
tantek
if Foursquare has an actual UI for editing opening hours, that would be interesting
#
aaronpk
they do!
#
[kevinmarks]
they do, I've used it
#
[kevinmarks]
google local does too

tantek
aaronpk if you think the Foursquare example in particular is good - can you add it (maybe screenshot of the editing UI?) to http://microformats.org/wiki/opening-hours-examples ?
