hey, just noticed a ping from #microformats in my server buffer saying logs are available at http://krijnhoetmer.nl/irc-logs/microformats? i.e. a *third* location?
#
strugee
is that possibly out of date? I get Forbidden when visiting it anyway
#
aaronpk
That’s one of the original logs

aaronpk: makes sense
#
strugee
should maybe be changed though since there are now two others and it's down anyway

Anyone else still use microformats? Am I way out of date?

[@anotheruiguy] @mirisuzanne yes, they are still a thing. If they are being used or not … I find that to be a case-by-case basis. Docs haven’t been updated in YEARS!
#
tantek
heh - wonder which docs to start with
#
KartikPrabhu
first confirm whether they mean microformats microformats or the generic word "mircroformats"
#
@aaronpk
@anotheruiguy which docs were you looking at? There's been lots of updates in the last few years, e.g. https://microformats.io

#
@anotheruiguy
@mirisuzanne I did. But not that much. I rarely work with systems where I have that much control over the content. Used hCalendar maybe once.

#
aaronpk
anyone else want to chime in on the thread?
#
Loqi
[@anotheruiguy] @aaronpk Most of the docs around the spec were written on 2010. This link is a new doc, but the info is no different.
#
KartikPrabhu
so does the info need to change if the spec hasn't changed much?

Meh, microformats for SEO isn’t a very interesting conversation
#
tantek
oh is that what is ? I hoped for more from an anotheruiguy
#
tantek
KartikPrabhu: and no it does not
#
tantek
also that's what happens to good and adopted specs, they stabilize and are interoperable over long periods of time
#
tantek
for someone looking for "the latest docs", microformats2, h-entry, microformats2-parsing etc. is the place to point them
#
tantek
hmm I wonder why we didn't see this https://twitter.com/anotheruiguy/status/918248251572154368 too many false positives for hCard?
#
Loqi
[@anotheruiguy] @aaronpk Google supports hCard, so if you have a lot of calendar data, I would recommend using it for SEO purposes.
#
tantek
also - aaronpk, microformats.io is not from 2010, it's all modern mf2 parsers and publishing and stuff
#
tantek
so the point that "the info is no different" is false

wondering if @microformats should reply and quote-tweet you aaronpk
#
Loqi
[@microformats] @mirisuzanne still evolving, still growing in use. Now driving social web interoperability. As @aaronpk tweeted: https://twitter.com/aaronpk/status/918247107810639872 ^@t
