[tantek] [jgmac1106] if only the microformats plugin could be smart about that and rather than tell people "You do NOT install microformats", it could do the right thing, detecting perhaps if it is needed or not in such a situation, and quietly doing nothing, perhaps with a notice informing the user that their #indieweb WordPress theme is already taking care of good markup.

jgmac1106[m] And pferrele and gwg will know best but I think the mf2 plugin could work for people comfortable with editing themes. They don't need a new one just search and delet h-feed vCard etc, then install... It's the two together that throws everything

jgmac1106[m] Why wordpress makes it this hard to reliably add a property in HTML is beyond me as well... And evryeone uses the metaboxes for this.... Hope the Gutenberg solutions, if any, handle mf2 better

Zegnat Not just WordPress. Basically every CMS ever. It is pretty nonstandard to try and add classes into unknown HTML and hope you get it right. If there is a CMS that specifically supports that I’d love to see it

Zegnat They either have microformats, or they don’t. But that is the same with WordPress themes, is kinda my point. The problem is with dynamically updating HTML written by someone else (theme creator / CMS creator) to add microformats.

sknebel right, you'd need to take hooks really far, *and* in a way that makes it hard to use them wrong

[grantcodes] Yeah it's a very slippery slope giving non development minded people access to html & classes. Far too easy to break stuff if you don't know what you're doing

[jgmac1106] All access... all the time..I don't WordPress because the theming felt overly complicated. Write my post this way with this HTML...but never thought about all the moving parts that must hook in

[jgmac1106] just never understood why in any CMS once a page is published I can't edit and then change the html anyway I want. Not a solution but should be a universal truth. You can remix what you publish
