↩️ I wish the VR stuff had happened back in 2008 when the web was at peak openness. We were so ready for this side of things - the composable/programmable web, microformats, OpenSocial...and now it's all passé, unmonetizable, and the web feels like a shell of what it once was

Is there software out there that converts between recipe file formats, like hRecipe, Open Recipe Format, etc?
#
galaxie
So far this is all I've found and it doesn't support the formats I'm interested in: http://recipetools.sourceforge.net/joomla3/index.php/cb2cb

[tantek]
good question! are there recipe formats you're interested in beyond those listed here? http://microformats.org/wiki/recipe-formats
#
galaxie
Not really, except perhaps the Open Recipe Format: https://open-recipe-format.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

Whatever software seems to be "the top one" rather than some scripts to convert between a few formats is basically what I'm looking for. If it doesn't have an importer or exporter, but it's maintained well enough that I could add one, that I would like.

Also schema.org's Recipe format seems to be somwhat popular: https://schema.org/Recipe

My understanding is that hRecipe is far more popular than schema, having been what Google Recipe Search launched with (no schema at the time), and still their primary source of information
#
[tantek]
It would be interesting to figure out mappings from those other formats to hRecipe for better interop with existing tools

So do you know of any software that can convert between recipe formats?
#
[tantek]
Last I heard of any was at an Open Recipes sessions at OpenSourceBridge conference in Portland a few years ago
#

Is it available?
#
[tantek]
I just looked for it and can't find it, it may have been in 2015 or 2016
#
[tantek]
There was some decent open source software that imported and exported a bunch of different types of recipe formats, and I think they were open to considering and accepting patches for additional formats
#
[tantek]
ah it was in 2013

Here is the OSS project, appears to be archived: https://github.com/fictivekin/openrecipes
