#@taskboy3000Took a bunch of "skills tests" on linkedIn. The HTML quiz seemed to have *a lot* of item* stuff, which I think has to do with microformats? I didn't realize this was getting so "important." (twitter.com/_/status/1179939766181285888)

#[dougbeal]Is it valid to wrap an img in span/u-photo? pin13 used the alt-text as a filename. If I move u-photo to img, then it works as expected.

#KartikPrabhu[dougbeal]: it is valid, but u-photo might not pick up the img URL
#KartikPrabhuyou can put any class on any element and it would be valid
#KartikPrabhuso depends on how you want the parsers to pick up the property
#aaronpk"u-" means get the value from the src or href attribute so that's not going to do what you want putting it on a span element

#[dougbeal]Making sure brid.gy gets a photo. Both brid.gy and pin13 ended up with nonsense urls in the wrapping span case
vesper11, nitot and [tonz] joined the channel
#[tantek]bridgy uses u-photo, and that u-photo must refer to an actual image URL
#[tantek]not sure what you mean about a wrapping span unless you're showing the photo URL in visible text

#[Lewis_Cowles]Are there standards to link to meta in another document? I'm looking at my very spartan blog (no JS, 1 CSS file) and there is a fair bit of markup I'd like to lose. For example I have 23 lines of ld+json on every single page. It'd be so nice to have something a bit like an OSD tag (I know more meta) which could link to meta about a page / post
#[jgmac1106]what is using your json+ld? or is it just there? I have it on Known to but I know of nothing to do with it
#[Lewis_Cowles]yeah it's knownas and organisation. My site was WP, then I decided that was too much so it became Jekyll. At the moment it's semi-generated semi-hand-crafted HTML. No pages are huge, but there just seems to be a lot of meta-data with the actual data. I might be over-thinking this
#[Lewis_Cowles]I want to add some dynamic sub-domains for things like webmention, but everything I look at adds yet more meta
#[jgmac1106]use Known, you can have Dublin Core as well, does add extra lines, but heck if someone wants it let them have it
#[tantek][jgmac1106] meh why publish under covers code that you don’t know if anyone is consuming?
#[tantek]DC in particular is known for being overhyped without actual practical consuming apps.
#[jgmac1106]I don't it just comes with the CMS, why I asked if [Lewis_Cowles] had a use, if he doesn't then don't waste the time, but seems someone is using it
#[Lewis_Cowles]Technically I'm using it, but I could stop. That would remove it's noise from every page. I started with the question [tantek] asks. "Is this being used" and then I thought, well nobody but me uses my website really as it's not had much attention from me.
#[jgmac1106]ohh I though you meant some organization Knownas was using the JSON+LD on your site
#[Lewis_Cowles]If I were to be data-driven I'd take the whole thing down. But I'm trying to get better at it, so I'd be interested in having microformats or other mechanisms. I'm just not sure I want to embed that in main storage or main HTML
#[jgmac1106]plus to me if the world ends an html page printed on paper still reads the same, on my homepage I just use mf2 because there are so many tools to play with
#[tantek]DC you publish and then wonder why you bothered
#[Lewis_Cowles][tantek] there is no dublin core on my personal webpage. The organisation ld+json is just so I can get a logo on some search engines
#[tantek][Lewis_Cowles] I was responding to [jgmac1106] ‘s curious enthusiasm for DC
#[jgmac1106]yes ask a DC librarian (which most major edu libraries have) ehat they do and it is just fixing and adding DC...not really doing much with it...do wish u-featured would get picked up
#[jgmac1106]I wasn't enthusiasm, the bit of sacrasm wasn't really coming through, I don't have to do any work to mantain, never see it, doesn't bother me
#[tantek]It’s semantic alchemy [jgmac1106]. They’re adding it out of habit and couldn’t actually justify it with a use case
#[jgmac1106]....except when I see how many lines it takes to publish a note
#[jgmac1106]well the maintainer of the dc website did ask for my help to add mf2 when they relaunch.....
#[jgmac1106]JSON-LD could turn out widely used in edu spaces, we will see, the data interoperability people are pushing is xAPI which is based off of RDF-a and designed to allow any "affinity space" to add vocabularies
