did someone set up that bot on this repo?
#
dougbeal
I noticed php-mf2 had no tests involving email, I grabbed the example from the mf wiki and it passed, should I go ahead and PR the test?
#
aaronpk
dougbeal: what example on the wiki?
#
dougbeal
The slightly more complete example: http://microformats.org/wiki/h-card
#
aaronpk
that has an <a> tag with u-email class, that looks fine
#
aaronpk
and mailto
#
aaronpk
sounds fine to add that to the test data if it's not there already
#
[tantek]
dougbeal, both with this u-email and the previous u-photo example, the error seems to be the same
#
KartikPrabhu
aaronpk: IIRC seems a while back these bots were set on microformats and indieweb repos
#
KartikPrabhu
not sure who did it
#
[tantek]
there appears to be misconception that putting a u- class on a parent element will somehow fish through the attributes of all *descendant*s for links and URLs and such
#
[tantek]
when it has never worked that way, even in classic microformats
#
dougbeal
tantek: true, but this one is part of the wordpress-indieweb plugin author widget
#
dougbeal
tantek: I might recognize the problem now ;)

Probably me
#
[jgmac1106]
gwg well it might have been reinforced but seems to be early lesson everyone has to learn and one I haven't master. When folks first start playing with mf2 they stick u-photo and u-url everywhere
#
GWG
Yes, probably haven't looked in ages
#
[tantek]
[jgmac1106] not my experience. usually people are more conservative, not putting markup in enough places. there is a smaller set that over do it. maybe that's also where some of the divitis comes from, the folks sticking ... stuff ... everywhere
#
[jgmac1106]
learning messy I guess in both directions
#
[tantek]
to take a cooking analogy, do people just dump all the random spices they find in the cabinet into a new dish when learning? I surely hope not.
#
[tantek]
more likely: they try 1-2 spices at a time, or vary based on a recipe
#
[tantek]
instead of just over-spicing the heck out of everything
#
[jgmac1106]
you will get both learning is messy, learning to cook even messier, heck someone somewhere will put a tupperware in a toaster oven

dougbeal has 1 karma in this channel over the last year (7 in all channels)
#
aaronpk
so how did this get in there in the first place and how can we help that not happen in the future?
#
KartikPrabhu
[tantek]: yeah, some people do put all the random spices they have :P
#
aaronpk
has done that
