# 01:02 jacky sure - is there something/somewhere this issue is tracked?
# 01:05 KartikPrabhu yeah can't find it either. Mostly it is migrating media wiki setup and all that
# 01:06 jacky that kinda sounds like a weekend project tbh
# 01:50 aaronpk there's some advance work that could use some help
# 01:51 aaronpk I could be convinced to dedicate a weekend and pair program this up with you if you want Jacky. We could even livestream it to hold ourselves accountable
# 01:58 aaronpk It's gonna be a lot of installing Wordpress and mediawiki and plugins and testing import scripts fair warning
# 01:59 jacky that sounds not bad (already is looking at vagrant setups for mediawiki)
# 02:01 jacky only because vagrant is more sensible for dev than docker
# 02:01 jacky and will potentially mirror whatever the prod setup will look like
# 02:06 jacky which weekend works for you (this one is crowded for me)

# 02:26 [schmarty] (Haha a third with a streaming setup as well if those are the stakes!)
# 03:02 jacky I kinda enjoy testing the limits of the mf2 parser I'm using in elixir
# 03:03 jacky but it's making me realize it's not feature complete :(

# 08:39 [tantek] I can ready out to Rohit as well. He and I were the last two people to migrate the server contents last time many years ago
# 08:40 [tantek] Also there’s a bunch of static files we host. It’s not just WordPress and MediaWiki

# 12:59 aaronpk im not worried about moving static files, it's Wordpress and mediawiki migrations and upgrades that'll be the challenge
# 13:14 aaronpk We won't touch the current server except to copy data off it until everything is set to flip the switch
# 13:22 sknebel can also always temporarily proxy from new to old if e.g. you only finish the wiki in that time
# 14:52 GWG Tell me if you need WordPress help once migrated.

# 18:07 [tantek] I'm worried about keeping track of it all and the steps need (beyond chat), and suggest starting a list of steps for migration so we can edit / re-order / add to it etc., since it sounds like you have a particular strategy in mind
# 18:08 [tantek] list of planned migration steps (for June 6-7) on the wiki or an etherpad would be great
# 18:08 [tantek] what I don't want to see happen, "just start and figure it out as we go" because I can pretty much promise it won't get done and stuff will be missed / forgotten / broken
# 18:09 aaronpk maybe we should use the indieweb wiki tho so the list doesn't disappear part way thru :P
# 18:10 aaronpk but also don't worry, everything we'll do will be on a staging server and there's no need to go anywhere near the live server until we're confident everything is working
# 18:14 [tantek] not just about the staging vs existing sense of security/safety
# 18:14 [tantek] also about having a list where you actively indicate what's been done or not (by checking off, not deleting)
# 18:15 [tantek] I think Rohit and I did at least some of that for the last migration, and tried to put it on the wiki
# 18:15 aaronpk i do that in a text file on my computer when I do these migrations myself. etherpad is probably the best bet for this
# 18:16 [tantek] another thing that helps with these kinds of lists is for each migration "action", come up with a "how do we know it worked?" test or tests, and have that be one of the ways you pair (different person does the test than does the migration)
# 18:17 [tantek] and yes that itself is an action that gets checked off

# 18:35 gRegorLove Sounds like there's enough cooks already, but I'll be around that weekend if you need me to test out anything
