I have a question about rel="me". I'm assuming that can be used for an organization as well as an individual, for e.g. a business to connect its facebook page in an h-card. Correct?

it's been discussed as a theoretical possibility, and certainly back when Twitter support rel=me in their website field a business could link their Twitter and their personal site. The problem with a FB page is that it has no way of linking back with rel=me. There is the possibility of using an actual business-owned site as the "hub" of their rel=me links
#

Ok. So maybe don't bother then?

Well, github and mastodon link back with rel=me

[tantek]
that's a good (re)start

btrem, it depends on what your goals are. what's the use-case you're trying to solve?
#
btrem
I'm just updating h-card markup to a small business website (adding backward-compatible hcard1.0 classnames).

Normally, when I have more than one url for a person or business, I add rel="me" to them. Maybe I'm guilty of cargo cult, and there's no point.

I started to add another idea to include-brainstorming: use the <data> element. As I was writing it up, I started to doubt the idea.
#
btrem
From MDN: "The HTML <data> element links a given piece of content with a machine-readable translation.". That's sort of a deal-breaker, I think.

Well, I added the proposal, but it's probably a non-starter.

It's still good to capture possibilities, even if you think they may be non-starters, and then document them as such. It may help avoid others re-attempting the same thing.

[tantek] I added a note documenting the semantics problems per your suggestion.
