[KevinMarks] Yeah, I realized after hitting send. I thought you were proposing an alternative to me redoing a template.

↩️ heh - a solid microformats joke! No, though I just didn't have any technical orientation and was just thrown into the deep end supervising wilson students alone

↩️ What should they encode? Names of entities? Semantic relationships between entities, like microformats? Between arguments in the text? I haven't yet seen anything cool being done with microformats…

↩️ the combination of webmention and microformats enables a lot of cool things such as comments, likes, events with RSVPs etc https://indieweb.org/posts#Types_of_Posts

Dries wrote a great blog post about microformats etc. that I think is worth discussing: https://dri.es/can-someone-add-some-more-html-tags-please

Anyone want to manually add microformats to tbl's Wikipedia page? :)

better to update the templates on Wikipedia to use mf2 so all pages that use those (like Infobox person) would publish microformats (mf2 in particular)

My reaction to the article is that I sort of made a similar remark here:

Or if not similar, then oblique. In any case, I often regard missing elements as odd. Like html was started in educational settings, yet there's no elements for bibliography.

And there's no element for poem or for a line in a poem. That would certainly be used by the bazillion song lyric sites out there.
#
[tantek]
not really. unfortunately the evidence points to new semantic elements being mostly ignored
#
[tantek]
plenty of new semantic elements were added in HTML5 and only a small fraction saw meaningful uptake

I think bibliography would at least be used by wikipedia, which would guarantee its use. ;-) But on a more serious note, my surprise about not including markup for bibliography or footnote is not so much "it would be useful" but rather "I'd think academics would have put it in".
